Sandmaiden was created for women like me, women who appreciate something beautiful and comfortable to put on as a means of transporting themselves from the busyness of the day into a place of joy and rest. Garments made from natural fibers ground us more intimately to our selves and our environment, providing more comfort and beauty than synthetic materials. The fabrics in the Sandmaiden collectio

n are 90% natural with about 10% modern, functional, fashion forward content like lycra or and soft wood pulp based fibers.

I consider beauty and it's composition deeply and often. It seems to me the criteria is that it must be in a state of evolution or de-evolution to be beautiful, it must be part of a conversation or sequence that both nods to it's past and points to it's future. It must be affected, it must affect, it must be alive.

I knew my calling pretty young šŸ˜…

For as far back as I can remember I would study my Mother, my aunties and all of their girlfriends, the way they stood with their arms crossed, their weight on one leg and try to emulate their posture. I would watch the way they flicked their ci******es and stretched their face to apply mascara, the way the mascara would run, the way they had to lay down on the bed to zip up their jeans just to have to open them at the dinner table. I longed to be in weight watchers and to have the mysterious problems of ā€œbreaking outā€ or having the men ā€œout running aroundā€ on me. Iā€™m 48 now and I still study women this way. Women have always been beautiful to me, Iā€™ve devoted my life to observing this beauty and solving its problems. My own face and body an ongoing project, my top priority. No apologies.

I'm looking for a production partner, a marketing partner, a financial partner, influencers and models. I'm 17 years into the handmade sleepwear business. My strength is Design, Production, Analyzing and of course Style

The business has been moved from our downtown production and retail shop to my home in Bellingham, WA, USA while I am working out how to grow smart in the changing online marketplace.

A little bit of sad news; I've closed the retail store in Bellingham which is our current workshop and am moving the business back to my home. I will miss working in the Bay st village with all of the artists and am thankful for the connections I've made from our various retail endeavors in town! More information in the email newsletter.
