🌊 Meet the Ocean's Hitchhiker: The Sea Bean 🌊

At first glance, a sea bean might not seem like much. It doesn't sparkle like a shell or boast the dramatic shape of a shark tooth. But don't let its simple appearance fool you, these little treasures have some of the most incredible journeys in the natural world.

Sea beans are seeds from tropical plants and vines that grow throughout the Caribbean, Central America, South America, and other warm coastal regions. Once they fall into rivers or directly into the ocean, they begin an epic voyage. Their tough outer shells allow them to survive months or even years floating across vast stretches of open water while ocean currents carry them thousands of miles from home.

Some sea beans have traveled through the Gulf Stream before washing ashore on beaches along Florida's Gulf Coast, the Atlantic seaboard, and even as far north as Canada and Europe. Because of their remarkable travels, beachcombers often call them "drift seeds" or "sea hearts," and many believe finding one is a sign of good luck.

One of the most exciting things about sea beans is that every one tells a different story. Where did it start? How many storms did it survive? How many oceans did it cross before ending up at your feet?

The next time you're combing the shoreline, keep an eye out for these wandering wonders. Hidden among shells, seaweed, and driftwood could be a tiny traveler that has spent years at sea just waiting to be discovered.

🌴 Have you ever found a sea bean on the beach? We'd love to hear about your find and see your photos in the comments!

🦈💎 Every Stone Has a Story... Just Like Every Shark Tooth 💎🦈

One of the things we love most at Sharktooth Finatic is that no two pieces of our jewelry line are ever exactly alike.

Every shark tooth we find has spent millions of years hidden beneath Florida's waters and rivers, waiting to be discovered. And when it's finally found, we pair it with gemstones that have their own stories, histories, and traditions stretching back thousands of years.

Some people choose a gemstone simply because they love the color. Others are drawn to the meanings that have been associated with these stones for generations.

💚 Amazonite is often called the Stone of Truth and Courage, believed to help people speak from the heart and stay true to themselves.

🔵 Apatite has long been associated with inspiration, motivation, and turning dreams into action.

💙 Lapis Lazuli treasured since ancient times, is known as a stone of wisdom, self-discovery, and inner vision.

🩵 Chrysocolla is often connected to calm communication, emotional balance, and finding peace during life's changes.

💜 Amethyst has been cherished for centuries as a symbol of tranquility, clarity, and spiritual growth.

These are only a few of the amazing gemstones we use in out collections.

Whether you believe in the holistic traditions surrounding gemstones or simply appreciate their natural beauty, there's something special about combining a prehistoric shark tooth with treasures formed deep within the Earth.

That's why we love creating our handmade jewelry. Every piece becomes more than an accessory it's a conversation starter, a connection to nature, and a reminder that some of the most beautiful things on Earth take millions of years to form.

Which gemstone are you most drawn to? We'd love to hear your answer in the comments! 👇🦈💎

Sea turtle season is officially here on Florida’s Gulf Coast, which means our beaches become more than just beautiful shorelines — they become important nesting grounds for these incredible ocean travelers! From May through October, mama turtles come ashore under the cover of darkness to lay their eggs, and a few weeks later tiny hatchlings make their exciting dash to the sea. A few simple actions from beachgoers can make a huge difference in helping them survive.

If you’re heading to the beach, remember the golden rule: Keep it Clean, Flat, and Dark! Fill in holes, knock down sandcastles, pick up chairs and trash, and avoid bright lights or flash photography at night. Red turtle-safe lights are the way to go if you need light after sunset. Together we can help keep Florida’s Gulf beaches safe for sea turtles while still enjoying everything we love about beach life. 🐢🌊☀️

🌊 **Storytime: The Rod & Reel Pier** 🌊

On the north end of Anna Maria Island stood the Rod & Reel Pier—built in 1947 by Bill Brier. Stretching 678 feet over the Gulf, it wasn’t just a pier, it was a place where time slowed down. Generations of fishermen, families, and visitors came here to cast a line, watch the water, and soak in that simple Old Florida feeling.

Over the years, it carried a lot of life. It expanded in the 1950s with the Rod & Reel Motel, saw decades of local character under Captain Frank Cavendish, survived a major fire in 2013, and was rebuilt again with care and determination. Each chapter added more meaning, more memories, more reasons people kept coming back.

Then at the end of 2024, Hurricanes Helene and Milton took it away—washing the historic structure back into the Gulf.

But places like this don’t really disappear. They live on in the stories, the photos, and the people who stood on those boards and looked out at the same horizon.

Some landmarks are built of wood… but the memories are built to last. 🌊🦈
