The main foyer of the Joseph Hall Cottage — original Victorian wallpaper, herringbone hardwood floors, a carved walnut fireplace, and stained glass doors that have been greeting guests since 1868.

Cut into the wood above the front door, in scrollwork that has survived more than 155 years: J. HALL.
Joseph Hall was a contractor in West Cape May. In the late 1860s, he built this cottage — and instead of letting it pass quietly into the neighborhood, he put his name on it. Literally.
It’s a small detail most visitors walk right past. But once you see it, you can’t unsee it. This is a builder who knew exactly what he’d made.
This summer, for the first time, his cottage is available to rent.

Built in 1868. Signed by its builder. Welcome to the Joseph Hall Cottage. ✨
This is one of Cape May’s most photographed Victorian landmarks — a masterwork of gingerbread architecture in the heart of the historic district. The builder, Joseph Hall, cut his own name into the front door. 155 years later, it still stands exactly where he left it.
This summer, for the first time, it’s available to rent.
