Lovar Kidd, a dance instructor and freelance choreographer in Cedar Rapids, watched most of his work disappear when the Covid-19 pandemic hit Iowa in March.
But a fresh idea struck him after he marched in a Black Lives Matter protest with a sign that explained his identity and outlook: “50 percent black, 50 percent white, 100 percent over racism.” When his brother joked that Kidd should print that on a T-shirt, that’s exactly what he did.
He used a portion of his grant to start an online T-shirt business — 100percentoverracism.com — and is donating all of the proceeds to the African American Museum of Iowa (https://blackiowa.org/) in Cedar Rapids during the month of June, and to The Academy for Scholastic and Personal Success (https://www.theacademysps.com/)

With an activist mindset and a passion for social change, 100% OVER RACISM wants people to and have the hard conversations that will move us forward as we fight for racial equity & equality.”
The creator of 100% OVER RACISM, L.D. Kidd is a poet, author, dance educator, musician, and antagonist to all ne'er-do-wellers. L.D. is no stranger to the stage, having performed extensively in both dance and musical theatre productions throughout the US and overseas over the last 25 years.
He currently serves as an Adjunct Instructor of Hip-Hop at the University of Iowa Department of Dance and a staff member at Nolte Academy in Iowa City.
When not teaching or choreographing, L.D. works as a licensed massage therapist and registered yoga teacher at HANDS IN HARMONY in Cedar Rapids. He is the proud father of two energetic boys, Myles & Kohen.
