Peak week for the backyard ultra.
12 days out from May 30th Backyard ultra with , and this whole thing has been shifting how I think about running.
Most people treat the marathon like the gateway. Train for 26.2, make it, then maybe start looking at ultras later.
But honestly, the backyard format might be one of the best ways to get into bigger mileage.
Slow place. No official distance. Basically tailgating with your crew of friends. And eating all the food you want 🍩
It turns running into something a little more playful and a lot more strategic than just running from A to B as fast as you can!
You can go for 3 loops, 5 loops, 10 loops, 24 hours, whatever sounds dumb enough to make you curious.
That’s what I’ve loved about this so far. It makes big mileage feel less like some elite, unreachable thing and more like a weird little game you can build toward.
Peak week was the final big confidence push.
The biggest lesson so far is that backyard ultras aren’t only about being able to run far.
It’s about repeating the same decision every hour.
That’s the part I’m trying to get better at.
Peak week now turns into taper, which honestly might be harder for my brain than the running.
12 days out.
