Welcome to our Garden, we hope you enjoy the view! 🌹 It looks two months to bead this entire garment including it's cape and hood. Embellished with glass and brass beads resting on top layers of peace silk organza and taffeta creating a lenticular/ 3D effect. The vision for the garment came to me last summer in July and it has not allowed me any respite since. Sometimes the design finds me and tugs on my sleeve until it is made. I will reveal more soon, for there are many things yet to discover in this fabric garden.

I am so excited to finally officially announce my participation in the Mint To Be runway competition! Please come and see my sustainable and artistic interpretation of the Feminine body, with many others on May 1st at the Mint Museum! I am thrilled to be showing amongst so many talented designers and I am looking forward to everyone's designs brought to life! It will be the Charlotte Fashion Event of the year! What a whirlwind of a Saturday down at the races! One of the most intense steeplechase vendor exhibits I have ever sold in. But the best thing of all, was being able to wear my sustainable Kentucky Derby dress again. I originally designed this sustainable gown for Churchill Downs last year, it was freezing and pouring rain and to be honest, the experience was not all that ideal.

Along with the dress made from peace silk and actual horse hair, I designed a personal cactus skin backpack for me to take along. However, unfortunately Churchill Downs do not allow bags of this size into the Derby. Thus, it had to stay behind at the hotel and I never got pictures of it.

However, yesterday, the dress and the bag redeemed themselves within the warm afternoon light of Camden, South Carolina! I'm very excited to show off these pictures that I took of the sustainable Derby dress and a cactus skin backpack!

Overall, it was an exceptional day, and I will cherish the memories!

During our visit to the living horse museum of Hollandsche Manege, we took the chance to have our earnings blessed by the horses of an endangered discipline. The art of side saddle. Something I personally got to try! It has me thinking of what else I might attempt in the new year. With the new year of the horse looming upon us, what calls to you? Adventures, skills, passions? Its a new start and the possibilities are endless. ✨

In full transparency, only the horse heads and multi colored roses were made by me, the other beaded appliques for the bodice and blue roses for the straps were sustainably sourced, along with the recycled fishnet tulle that sandwiches the vintage horse hair inside. The recycled tulle was also dyed using vegetable dyes.
The beaded horses and roses took weeks, each taking 6.5 hours to complete. These appliques were later additions to the dress. The final step in making this Derby Dress a dream come true!
