Back in May I competed in the Mint To Be runway competition by the fabulous Professor P, the theme to be interpreted: The Feminine Form. I teamed up with Sandy Kay ☆ Model to bring my idea to life! As I could not think of anyone else who could better carry the spirit of 'Bearer of Souls' forward! All of Sandy's movements are pure art! After the competition, I could not let this sustainable design rest without a proper photoshoot! Eric Thrower stepped up to the task and captured this garment and Sandy's magic in the light it deserved! I cannot wait to share more of this shoot with all of you!

Sustainable costuming at Vaux le Vicomte! 🌹 Captured by Leeloo Peuplier
One of my favorite photos from the collection that day back in May. As I am hand beading another project at the moment, I keep thinking back to all those hours spent on this piece. So many tiny beads dapple each flower and leaf. Truly makes me nostalgic for France and its historic chateaus rich with history.

After all my years of attending, this was the first time I was actually able to sit in it! The long wait was worth it! This room was absolutely epic! If you woke up one day and found out you were attending an 18th century ball at Chateau Versailles what color would you choose to wear? 👀

Amongst the foliage studded with dew, we find oneself transfixed by what has yet to come and what will outlast us. Nature thrives in the most desolate places, it always finds a way, even in the dark. There is something pretty remarkable about that. 🌿 In this photo one can see a clear picture of my Poppy Cactus earrings. They are made from Cactus Leather, a sustainable alternative to animal products and synthetic materials. It has low impact on the soil it grows in and requires even less water. If you were to feel its texture you would have no idea that it was once growing in the harshest of climates and sporting sharp barbs. 🌵 It feels just like the smoothest of leathers and is incredibly lightweight, plus it can withstand the heat! The perfect accessory to wear for an entire day Vaux le Vicomte. ✨

Tucked away among the trees and shaded under their emerald canopies we absorbed the view of this magnificent chateau! I can understand why Vaux le Vicomte inspired so much of Chateau de Versailles!

Here in these photos I have removed the cape and hood. I fully handbeaded the print underneath as well in preparation for the garment to be worn with and without. The print of the jacket is loud, just as nature never apologizes for blooming bright or for the color of its leaves. The print is double layered, creating a lenticular effect. Peace Silk Organza carefully placed on top of a Peace Silk Taffeta. Both were printed with the same print to achieve this effect. I beaded glass beads and crystal on top of select flowers and foliage to add to the 3D effect. Although a 'select' few flowers quickly turned into many more. 🌹

The skirt is actually a separate gown entirely. One with a zipper! 🤫 It acts like a modern ball gown, but masquerades as an 18th century Riding Habit/Brunswick. The under structure of both the pocket panniers and a small hoop skirt support it's 18th century shape. During this time, hoop skirts would not have been worn as they are a much later invention. The fabric is a very soft English Netting made from recycled fishing nets and dyed with vegetable dyes, thus it requires a little help from a hoop skirt!

Upon scheduling a photoshoot at Vaux le Vicomte, I must admit I did not know what to expect. I did not know there would be shaded natural paths that branched into the sprawling wilderness framing the chateau. Nor did I know that my photos would be taken there! My photographer .peuplier certainly understood the vision and the dream when she chose this place! It felt like a secret with a little magic thrown in. A perfect setting for my Punctured by Nature Robe a la Francaise

Well, I have been calling it that. But technically that's not what it is. It's actually an 18th century riding habit combined with a Brunswick. At least that's what the inspiration was. The reason I have not been calling it a riding habit is because I would not go near a horse while wearing it. It's a bit too fragile and can easily attract dirt, nor would this be something I'd want to go traveling in--as with a Brunswick. So as you can see, it's somewhere in between all three. I don't really mind sitting on the fringes of definition.

Some fun facts, both the hood and the cape are completely and independently detachable.

Regardless of this gown's official typecast one thing is for certain, it is sustainable. Just in case you were wondering, yes, there are indeed four crowns on my head, among other baubles that I stick in for fun. I seem to add a new one each year. Eventually, I will run out of space, but at that point I might just have to buy a very large wig! 😂 I think my goal is to be one with the interior of and live as an ornament in the Galerie de glaces. I still think about Versailles every single day.

The fantastic photographer .peuplier perfectly and most creatively captured my makeup for Fetes Galantes 2026 at the among the roses in their garden! Truly a magical precursor to the event! For every Fetes Galantes and Grand Masked Ball I always try to reflect the interior and exterior of the chateau in my makeup. As if you could pin me on the wall and I would blend right in! While the gown I am wearing in this photo is not of sustainable make, it is my first Robe a la Francaise I have designed and worn consecutively to every Fetes Galantes and Grand Masked Ball, therefore I dubbed it my 'Versailles Dress". After all these years, I am still quite fond of it, there is nothing quite like designing your first! It is my goal for the future that all new gowns I design for myself will be sustainable. 🌿
