Human made hits different.
The process of making this bag started with a conversation. She told me the stories and shared photos of her mother in law and poured in the memories of a strong, smart, resilient and loving woman and grandmother. I sat down and drafted a vision. It was such a heartfelt project from the very first stitch.
I spent months working on the bag even taking it with me to Nepal to meet my new family and to experience the love from my own mother-in-law. I felt a sense of connection to this project that would translate into a refusal to let this bag go without giving it 100% of my skills that I currently have. My only regret is that maybe when I learn more in the future I could have made it better because that is what the memories captured in this piece deserves.
Brenda is not my client, she was a beacon of light in a time when I felt frustrated in my craft. She gave me blind trust in something so novel that even I didn’t know for certain that I could produce.
Not working on this bag feels a little empty for me, but bringing it home means that Brenda and her family now have a connection to her mother-in-law that they can share and enjoy for the rest of their lives.
To be a service that keeps family connected to their loved ones in this small way is a huge honor to me
