Susu carries an inspirational message to all who choose to become part of this ethical vision. SUSU These handbags are called "SUSU" in their native language.

These beautiful and colorful accessories are handmade with a one strand crochet technique by indigenous women from the Colombian Wayúu ethnic group. Wayúu women are expert knitters and it can take up to 20+ days to finish a handbag. No two susu bags are ever the same. Each unique design expresses a theme chosen by the knitter. Behind each accessory lies a Wayúu woman's real life story. For each p

urchase made, Susu Accessories will give part of it's profits to the Wayúu knitters. We are greatful for your support!. In addition to the handbags, Chinchorros (specially designed hammocks), dresses and other colorful textiles and jewelry are created by this unique and talented Caribbean people.

Our Story

SUSU Accessories is a fashion brand whose roots are buried deeply in the ancestral art of the indigenous Wayúu culture, living in the state of La Guajira, Colombia. SUSU handmade bags are the union of avant-garde design from SUSU Accessories with the participation of fashion designer Marine Mercieux, and Wayúu tradition. Two languages, intertwined to produce bags endowed with genuine soul and terroir.

The beautiful and colorful patterns are handmade by expert Wayúu knitters using a single string technique. Every knitted pattern has a woman, a family and a real-life story behind it. A standard sized bag takes around 40 hours of work from a knitter. This artisanal process produces the most vibrant patterns and highest quality craftsmanship. The single string technique is the oldest and most authentic Wayúu knitting style. SUSU Accessories promotes a sustainable lifestyle with a Fair Trade philosophy for nearly 350 Wayúu knitters and their families, while forging strong bonds in the communities where we work.
