Today at Sixtyone, everything we do focuses on changing the way people think about golf. Our philosophy is simple: Work to get one person to change and then, with their help, work together to convince one more. The goal is help eliminate barriers and misconceptions about golf so that more people can benefit from the positive aspects of the game, especially young people with little or no access to
the golf course. Due to social and political pressures, in 1961 the PGA of America abolished Article III, Section 1 from their governing bylaws. Referred to as the Caucasian-only clause, it had been used to keep non-white golfers from participating in PGA tournaments. Sixtyone is a reference to the year that golf, at least in theory, was opened to everyone. So what does Sixtyone do? Sixtyone develops products, provides services and puts on events. From golf introduction programs, selling t-shirts and other apparel to picnics at the golf course, Sixtyone does whatever it can to raise awareness and help people recognize that golf is not to expensive, it is not boring and it is not only for the elite. What is the Sixtyone Country Club? Typically, a country club is looked at as the epitome of exclusivity. The Sixtyone Country Club, however, is not a physical location with fences and walls. Our country club is a way of thinking. Membership is open to anyone who shares our vision, whether they play golf or not.
