Iām a couple of weeks behind on my quilt along that I am doing with Canary Quilts, but Iām trying to get back on track to do Week 3 on Friday! This is a year long quilt along as I attempt to make a quilt with a book Iāve had on my shelf for YEARS!
This was my first attempt at paper piecing (except for one small block I tried about 7 years ago), and she isnāt perfect, but I love her! Carrie has been putting together WONDERFUL videos every week that made every single hesitation or worry I had about paper piecing disappear! Iām excited to keep practicing paper piecing, and I also am glad this is a week by week quilt along so I donāt get too overwhelmed along the way š
The best part of this quilt is reading the stories that go along with each block. For those unfamiliar with the book, it is a collection of stories written by farmerās wives in the 1930s. These stories all came from āThe Farmerās Wifeā magazine, and were part of the āLetters from our Farm Womenā section. This section was where readers would write letters to send in to give encouragement, advice, and support to other farmerās wives who were struggling during the Great Depression. This quilt book took those stories and assigned a quilt block to each story.
This week was Aimeeās story who shared her love of reading and the comfort it can bring to a farmerās wife. I may not be a farmerās wife myself, but I completely agree with Aimeeās love of books, and also find myself āsaving penniesā to acquire a new book to read š
