Vintage White Wicker Vanity Desk & Matching Stool

$ 150.00 (or best offer) — pickup only

Beautiful piece of turn-of-the-century Americana! This is a vintage wicker vanity/writing desk with its matching wicker footstool, painted in classic white. It features the ornate "fancy wicker" detailing that collectors love — a scrolled gallery back, an open lattice apron, and rows of decorative roll spindles along the skirt (see close-up photo). It has one center drawer for storage, delicate curved legs, and a woven under-shelf on the stool.

There's honest wear consistent with age — but the wicker itself is solid, tightly woven, and structurally sound. No sagging, no broken reed. This would look wonderful as an entry table, plant stand, vanity, or accent desk in a farmhouse, cottage, or coastal-style home.

Dimensions: approx. desk length 34", desk height 30.5", desk width 17", stool height 17.5", (measure before buying if space is tight)
Condition: Good antique condition — sturdy, functional, with expected age-appropriate wear
Includes: Desk + matching stool (decor items in photos not included)

A little history — why white wicker?

Wicker furniture boomed in America from about 1870 to the 1930s, driven by companies like Heywood-Wakefield, who mass-produced elaborate woven pieces for porches, parlors, and sunrooms. Painting wicker white became especially popular in the early 20th century as it fit the light, airy "cottage" and Victorian-revival aesthetics of the era — white paint also helped protect and seal the natural reed or willow fibers. Because it was lightweight, breathable, and decorative, wicker was prized for bedroom vanities and writing desks in particular.
Wicker like this — with the tightly hand-woven lattice work, roll/spindle trim, and construction quality — is increasingly hard to find in good condition, since reed furniture is fragile and many pieces didn't survive a century of use. That scarcity, combined with the ongoing popularity of vintage farmhouse and cottagecore decor, is what keeps well-preserved sets like this one desirable and holding solid resale value.
