New item alert!! I combine beautiful, hand-stitched, fair trade Kantha scarves and upcycled t-shirts and voila! Absolutely one-of-a-kind flowy ponchos that look great with jeans, shorts, skirts, or over a strappy dress. They are closed on the sides with comfy armholes and a little flutter side hem. Some are cropped at waist length and some are the tunic-length. I have some cool ones ready to go, but I can also create one especially for you if you have a tee shirt you'd like upcycled into a poncho.

Surprise, surprise! I have a brand new-to-me event this Saturday! I'm bringing a select assortment of tie dye and other fiber art goodies, as well as bracelets and sashiko-inspired artful mending kits. The Mushroom Man of Peotone will be with me, and he's bringing a few copies of his 🍄-growing book and wellness tinctures. We are looking forward to seeing Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center for the first time. Hope to see you there!

I'm very excited to be a part of the Southland Local Food System Expo again this year! Usually, I'm wearing my Mrs. Mushroom hat for this informative (and free!) event, but this year I'll be switching it up a bit and leading an interactive session on artful mending called Don't Pitch It - Stitch It! I'll be teaching folks how to keep their favorite, worn out hoodie or holey jeans out of the landfill and transformed into one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art. Sustainability doesn't have to be overwhelming, it can start one small stitch at a time.

I'm excited to kick off my 22nd in-person fiber art season tomorrow! I'll be participating in the Art Mart with Crete Creative - Gallery & School at Crete Public Library District. I've been wanting to make some visible mending sample pieces for a while now. Being down sick with the flu for a couple of weeks was the perfect time to start. These are sashiko-inspired designs - slow-stitching, artful mending that transforms wear and tear into something special. Suddenly a ratty, old pair of jeans is a bespoke piece that is truly one of a kind. These are days of rising prices, disappearing resources, and literal mountains of fiber trash polluting the environment. Mending is a form of activism and resistance against over-consumption and fast fashion. I'm excited to begin offering artful mending workshops locally. I've got a couple of places lined up and a few spots I want to reach out to, but please let me know if you know of venues, events, or groups that might welcome this type of workshop.
