Dating isn’t always about marriage or intimacy. Young girls need room to discover themselves, establish boundaries, and recognize red flags without the pressure of becoming someone’s wife.

There are valid conversations to be had about Black women’s experiences with Black men, but saying “Black men are hard to love” oversimplifies a much deeper issue. Trauma, upbringing, patriarchy, and personal accountability all play a role. And dating outside your race doesn’t automatically eliminate those challenges. We can acknowledge the hurt without generalizing an entire group of people.

Da’Vinchi’s comments about Black Americans being “incompetent” are exactly why these conversations matter. Black Americans didn’t simply inherit the opportunities available in this country. Our ancestors fought, organized, marched, bled, and died to expand those rights. Generations of people, including immigrants, benefit from those sacrifices today.

You can criticize America without diminishing the Black Americans who helped FORCE it to change. Acknowledging our contributions shouldn’t be controversial. 🇺🇸

Distancing yourself from dark-skinned Black women will never protect you from colorism. Some people are so desperate to separate themselves from darker women that they end up perpetuating the same anti-Blackness that harms them. Another woman’s complexion is not a threat to your beauty or worth.
