I think people keep asking why Raven-Symoné’s wife seems to minimize her success, but I’m starting to think the more interesting conversation is why Raven appears so comfortable participating in it. Raven has made it clear that she doesn’t want her celebrity to be the center of her relationships, but there’s a difference between being humble and making yourself smaller.

And the insistence that That’s So Raven somehow wasn’t a “Black show” is part of the same conversation for me. Raven Baxter being Black shaped the character, the humor, the storylines and the cultural language of that show. Acknowledging race isn’t divisive. Sometimes pretending race had nothing to do with something is the actual erasure.

Black women’s hair has never been as simple as “you wear weave because you hate yourself.”

That argument ignores the history of Black hair discrimination, assimilation, lack of representation, and the fact that protections like the CROWN Act are still relatively recent.

You can encourage Black women to love our natural hair without publicly antagonizing or shaming us for wearing braids, wigs, weaves, locs, silk presses, or anything else we choose.

If you already understand WHY Black women have historically had such a complicated relationship with our hair, asking loaded questions just to watch Black women defend themselves isn’t advocacy. It’s humiliation disguised as conversation.

Black women’s hair should be our choice. Period.

White people experiencing slavery does not erase or make equivalent the racialized, hereditary chattel slavery Black Americans endured. This isn’t about competing over who suffered more. It’s about understanding how a system built around race, inheritance, and the destruction of identity can shape generations long after slavery legally ends.

Slavery ended. The consequences didn’t.

Young Black girls deserve to feel safe at school. PERIOD. Teachers and coaches are supposed to be trusted adults, and protecting children should always come before protecting reputations, careers, or institutions. We have to listen to young Black girls, take their concerns seriously, and hold adults accountable when boundaries are crossed. Protect the children. 🗣️

Brandon Tatum really said we need to “stop lying” to Michelle Obama about being attractive… then volunteered his OWN wife for the comparison. Sir. 😭

But the bigger conversation is how anti-Blackness gets packaged differently when the messenger is Black. Being Black doesn’t automatically make the rhetoric you push any less anti-Black. It matters what you say, who you say it about, who your message is designed to validate, and what larger narrative you’re helping reinforce.

And somehow Michelle Obama continues to be a favorite target. Interesting. 🫠

Black women talking about our reproductive bodies is NOT “centering men.” Our bodies have historically been a battleground for control, and our fight has always been for bodily autonomy: the right to have children, the right not to have children, and the right to raise our families safely. That’s why Reproductive Justice matters. Liberation from patriarchy does not require us to disconnect womanhood from our own bodies and lived experiences. 🖤

There’s a difference between preserving tradition and preserving exclusion.
When we start reminiscing about the days when certain organizations only wanted women who had a particular “look,” we also have to be honest about what those beauty standards historically meant for Black women. Colorism, texturism, size discrimination, and respectability politics are not traditions we need to bring back.
If sisterhood, service, community, and excellence are the foundation, why should a woman’s dress size or whether she fits an outdated beauty standard determine whether she belongs?

Women should be allowed to talk about womanhood without the conversation immediately being redirected.
Talking about our bodies, reproductive health, motherhood, periods, misogyny, violence, discrimination, fertility, infertility, and the experiences that shape our lives does not mean we are attacking anyone else.
And throwing around words like “MAGA,” “alt-right,” or “TERF” doesn’t actually address the conversation being had.
We can respect trans people AND acknowledge that women have lived, sex-based experiences worth discussing. Those two things do not have to cancel each other out.
Why has simply talking about womanhood become so controversial?

Womanhood is more than how we look, dress, or express ourselves. It’s also the reality of moving through this world as women.
Our reproductive health matters. Our fight for bodily autonomy matters. PCOS, fibroids, maternal mortality, medical discrimination, sexual violence, FGM, and generations of women fighting for rights over our own bodies matter.
Acknowledging these experiences does not invalidate anyone else. But inclusion should never require women to minimize or erase the realities that have shaped our lives.
Womanhood includes the beautiful, the painful, the complicated, and everything in between. ❤️
