Customer: “Do you have a mink stole and giraffe-print hair on hide sandals?”

Ainsley and I: “Oddly enough, that’s not the strangest thing we’ve been asked.”

Just another perfectly normal day at The Velvet Echo. 🖤🦒✨

Last Saturday I dressed myself from my own store for Marcus’s 50th High School Reunion here in Denton.

My favorite pieces are still the ones that have already lived a life before me. I don’t want anything new!!

An evening filled with stories, laughter, and a reminder that growing older is a privilege.

And yes… I chose the dramatic black dress with a true vintage 70’s sequin belt and metallic gold heels 🖤✨

One of my favorite things about building this space is that it doesn’t have to make perfect sense.

A vintage gown.
A hand-stamped tee.
A Paris-sourced jacket.
A wall of hats.
And now, a bass watching over it all.

The Velvet Echo was never meant to feel like a store.

It was meant to feel like wandering through a collection of stories.

Today, another story found its place. Welcome home George.

Store mascot status: unofficially achieved. 🖤

She’s judgmental.
She’s glamorous.
She knows where all the best vintage pieces are hidden.

Honestly, she’s been running The Velvet Echo this whole time—we just pay the rent.

Come say hello to our newest little guardian of curiosities and preloved treasures.

Because every great vintage shop needs a black cat.

Meet Ainsley. ❤️

Artist. Creative Director. My goddaughter. And one of the people helping bring The Velvet Echo to life.

Ainsley has a rare gift for seeing beauty where others might walk right past it. She understands that clothing can be more than something we wear—it can be art, self-expression, memory, and transformation.

The hand-stamped tees you’ll see in the shop are created by her, using preloved garments as her canvas. In a world already overflowing with clothing, she helps us imagine a different way forward: creating something unique from what already exists.

Her creativity, talent, wicked sense of humor, and belief in this dream have left fingerprints all over The Velvet Echo, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

If you’ve visited the shop, you’ve already experienced a little bit of her magic.

I’m proud to introduce our Creative Director, local artist, and one of my favorite humans, Ainsley. ✨

One of the things I’m most excited about at The Velvet Echo is these hand-stamped tees.

They’re not new. They’re not mass-produced. They’re not sitting in a warehouse waiting to be shipped.

Each one starts as a preloved tee that gets a second life through the hands of local artist and our Creative Director, Ainsley Mauline. Every stamp is done by hand, which means no two are exactly alike.

In a world already overflowing with clothing, we don’t need more things. We need more imagination. More creativity. More ways to honor what already exists.

That’s what these tees are about.

Preloved. Reimagined. One of one.

And honestly? That’s a lot like The Velvet Echo itself. ❤️

Not every chapter of our lives stays with us.

But every now and then, people from a chapter long past walk through your door and remind you that the love was real, the connection mattered, and the years in between don’t change that.

Today these beautiful women surprised me with a visit to The Velvet Echo. One worked for me years ago. The other worked just across the hall from me for three years. Life carried us all in different directions, but somehow the bond remains.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized success isn’t measured by what you’ve built—it’s measured by who still shows up when you’ve built it.

Thank you for making my heart so full today. Thank you for the memories, the laughter, and for reminding me that some people never become part of your past. They become part of who you are.

I love you both dearly. Always. ❤️

Some dresses ask for attention.

This one earns it.

A stunning vintage 90s evening gown with a daring open back, subtle shimmer, and the most beautiful cascading ruffled tail. Equal parts sweet and sexy, she balances elegance with just enough mischief.

She’s the kind of dress that makes you stand a little taller, smile a little wider, and linger a little longer in front of the mirror.

For the woman who knows that confidence is the most beautiful thing she’ll ever wear.

Available now at The Velvet Echo.

This dress belonged to an incredibly beautiful woman named Joy.

She never made it down the aisle. It simply wasn’t meant to be. But in the end, he stayed by her side through her final days, and there is something deeply sacred about that kind of love and goodbye.

When this vintage beauty found its way to us, the original tag was still attached — untouched, waiting. A gown once chosen with hope, now carrying a different kind of story.

At The Velvet Echo, we believe pieces hold echoes of the lives that loved them before us. And it is an honor to help them find their next chapter. 🤍

When I dreamed up The Velvet Echo, I didn’t want it to feel like a store.
I wanted it to feel like stepping into your coolest friend’s closet… the one who collected stories instead of just things.

A space where you can slow down for a minute.
Touch everything. Try things on. Wander. Explore.

I wanted it to feel cozy and inspiring and just a little magical… like every corner might hold something unexpected.

Almost everything you see in here is for sale — the art, the furniture, the rugs, the lighting, the odd little treasures. We wanted the entire space to feel layered and alive… not staged.

Because vintage should feel personal.
Not behind glass. Not untouchable.

Every piece here had a life before this one… and now it gets the chance to become part of someone else’s story.

And honestly, that’s my favorite part of all of this… watching people walk in curious and leave feeling inspired, confident, nostalgic… sometimes even emotional.

The Velvet Echo was built to feel safe. Warm. Creative. Human.

A place where you don’t have to rush.
You just get to come in… and feel something.
