Everyone talks about Portland, but I think Oregon’s real magic lives two hours away in Astoria.

Perched where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean, this little town somehow feels like a fishing village, a movie set, and a history book all at once. Colorful Victorian homes climb the hillsides, sea lions bark from the docks, and every corner feels like a scene waiting to happen.

It’s the kind of place where you spend the morning sipping coffee overlooking the river, the afternoon wandering historic streets, and the evening watching the fog roll in wondering if you accidentally stepped into a Nicholas Sparks novel.

And yes, if it looks familiar, it’s because movies like The Goonies were filmed here.

It’s the kind of place where a quick weekend getaway suddenly turns into you browsing real estate listings and asking yourself if you could pull off desert life.

When most people think of Arizona, they picture cacti, red rocks, and endless desert. I certainly wasn’t expecting to find a colorful little town built into the mountains, filled with art galleries, historic buildings, and enough character to make me want to wander for hours. Bisbee feels like a place that accidentally stepped out of another era and decided to stay hidden from the rest of the world.

Some places surprise you. And then there are places that completely steal your heart.

Eureka Springs is one of those places.

Nestled in the Ozark Mountains, this little town feels like it belongs in another era. Winding streets, Victorian homes perched on hillsides, hidden staircases, quirky shops, and enough charm to make you slow down and actually look around for a while.

It’s the kind of place where you accidentally spend an extra hour wandering because every corner seems to have another beautiful building, cozy café, or tucked-away garden.

I love big cities and beach vacations, but sometimes the places that stay with you the longest are the ones you never expected. The ones that feel like a secret.

And honestly? Eureka Springs is the kind of place you almost don’t want to tell anyone about… because you want it to stay exactly the way it is.

If you’re looking for an underrated American destination that feels equal parts fairytale, mountain escape, and Hallmark movie set, put this one on your list.

If Las Vegas and a Colorado mountain town had a baby, it would be Black Hawk.

One minute you’re sitting in Denver traffic wondering why everyone in the city decided to leave the house at the exact same time as you. Forty-five minutes later, you’re winding through the mountains, surrounded by pine trees and views so pretty they deserve their own postcard.

Honestly, the drive alone is worth the trip.

Black Hawk somehow manages to pack all the flashing lights, casinos, and “maybe this next spin will change my life” energy of Vegas into one tiny mountain town. We didn’t exactly hit the jackpot, but we also didn’t have to walk six miles through a casino or pay $28 for a cocktail, so I’d still call that a win.

And can we talk about the prime rib? Because if I drove all the way up there and came home with nothing but a good meal and mountain views, I’d still consider the day a success.

Sometimes you don’t need a big vacation. You just need an easy escape, a scenic drive, a little bit of luck, and a reminder that one of Colorado’s best little getaways is sitting just 45 minutes outside of Denver.

🍷 I Found Napa Valley… But It Was Hiding in Michigan

I didn’t expect to fall in love with wine country in northern Michigan.

When most people think of wine destinations, they picture California. I did too. But then I found myself driving through rolling hills, passing vineyard after vineyard, with sparkling blue water peeking through the trees, and I had one of those travel moments where you stop and think… How did I not know this place existed?

That’s exactly how Traverse City felt.

Tucked along the shores of Lake Michigan, this charming little town is home to two incredible wine trails—Old Mission Peninsula and Leelanau Peninsula—where dozens of wineries produce everything from crisp whites to award-winning reds. And because of the lake’s unique climate, the grapes thrive here in a way that feels almost magical.

The best part? It doesn’t have the crowds, the sky-high prices, or the pretentious vibe that some famous wine regions can have. It’s relaxed, beautiful, and feels like the kind of place you accidentally discover and then immediately start telling everyone about.

Give me a glass of local wine, a vineyard overlooking the water, and a sunset over Lake Michigan, and I’m a happy girl.

Sometimes the most unforgettable destinations aren’t halfway around the world. Sometimes they’re quietly waiting in your own backyard.

Some destinations impress you. Others make you slow down and wonder what it would be like to stay a little longer.

That was Duluth for me.

Perched on the shores of Lake Superior, Duluth feels like the kind of place a movie producer would create if they were trying to build the perfect small-city setting. Historic brick buildings, ships gliding through the harbor, cozy coffee shops, scenic trails, and views that seem far too dramatic for the Midwest.

What surprised me most was how much character the city has. One minute you’re watching massive freighters pass beneath the iconic Aerial Lift Bridge, and the next you’re wandering through neighborhoods that feel like they’ve barely changed in generations.

And then there’s the lake.

Photos don’t prepare you for how enormous Lake Superior feels in person. Standing on the shoreline, it looks more like an ocean than a lake. The combination of rugged natural beauty and historic charm gives Duluth a personality that’s hard to find these days.

It’s one of those places that doesn’t need flashy attractions or giant resorts to make an impression. It simply has a way of making you feel welcome the moment you arrive.

Maybe that’s why it felt like a Hallmark movie come to life.

When most people think about Florida, they picture beaches, theme parks, and high-rise condos.

A few years ago, we flew into Orlando and spent several days exploring Florida’s east coast, driving from Fort Lauderdale all the way to Jacksonville along A1A. The goal was simple: find a place we might want to call home someday.

We visited town after town, each with its own personality. But one place stood out above all the others.

St. Augustine.

The moment we arrived, it felt different. Spanish moss swayed from centuries-old oak trees. Brick and cobblestone streets wound through the historic district. The architecture, history, and southern charm made it feel like we had stepped into another era.

As the oldest continuously occupied European-established city in the United States, history is woven into every corner. From the beautiful college campus to the grand historic buildings and waterfront views, there was a sense of pride and heritage that was impossible to miss.

What surprised me most wasn’t the history or the beauty—it was the people. Everywhere we went, we were greeted with genuine kindness. Conversations felt slower, smiles felt more sincere, and the entire city seemed to move at a pace that invited you to stay awhile.

Of all the places we explored on that trip, St. Augustine was the one we couldn’t stop talking about.

Sometimes the most memorable destinations aren’t the ones you’ve planned for years. They’re the ones that quietly steal your heart when you least expect it.
