Today is World Cancer Day. Please give the survivors you know a hug (with consent) and tell them that you're glad they're still with you.

Yesterday I had my annual mammogram - I still have one breast, and it still needs to be checked regularly. I told my tech about Half-Flat and gave her a few business cards. She loved my logo.

"Do you know that teacups are special for mammogram radiologists?" she asked.

"No, I didn't! How so?"

"So if we see a blur on one view, we check the spot on the other view. If it looks like a teacup, then we know it's just benign calcium particles. So we like teacups."

It's so cool to find additional, unintended connections with something you've put so much of your love and passion into.

The Sunrays Tankini started as a haute couture piece I made for a formal dinner and gala. That design became the most versatile piece in the Half-Flat collection. Meet Lori — massage therapist, mother, creative, and the founder of , a swimwear brand empowering people to celebrate their bodies after unilateral mastectomy.

When Lori was diagnosed with DCIS, she made decisions rooted in function, mobility, and her deep understanding of the human body. She chose a unilateral mastectomy with an aesthetic flat closure — a choice that aligned with her lifestyle, her work, and her values.

Her healing was steady and strong, but the world of post-mastectomy swimwear left her wanting something more honest. Something that didn’t try to hide her story. So she created it herself.

Today, Lori proudly embraces her half-flat body, sharing her journey with openness and confidence. She reminds us that your history with your body matters — and it’s allowed to shape your reconstruction decisions.
