My Granny Hancock taught me to crochet. The summer before 4th grade, it wasn't necessarily the cool thing to sit inside, chaining miles upon miles of yarn. But the most important thing she taught me was that NOTHING I created would EVER turn out right if I did it with too much impatience. The madder I got, the tighter I wrestled that yarn and gripped that hook. So, she'd quietly remind me, "Yanking it tighter won't make it any righter."
I won a 4-H award for this afghan and couldn't wait to show her. I still wonder to this day whether she studied my handiwork and noticed all the oopsies I saw so clearly, or if she was just proud. I think she was just proud. 🧶
