I'd rather be thrifting ✌️

What started as a creative outlet eventually turned into a resourceful smorgasbord of repurposing vintage jackets & dilapidated kiddie pools. It all began when I wanted to make stuff with leather but didn’t know where to find any (spoiler: it was thrift stores). Add getting grossed out by my own consumption habits & here I am today making cool, wearable stuff out of trash.

Because there's already enough cool stuff in the world without starting from scratch making something new.

The last one is my favorite 😏

What do you get when you happen to have a greenhouse and some popped pool toys lying around?

Art!

But first, ask strangers to cut plastic scraps into shapes, spray them with water and stick them onto the walls.

Grateful for a community willing to run with weird ideas and see the beauty when we all come together 🩷

It’s shapes on a greenhouse, but it’s actually SO much more. This project represents how we’re better when we flock together. Alone, we are one piece of the puzzle, but our collective actions can make something bigger and when we gather our ideas we can create something beautiful.

Case in point- we can make art from trash! All of these colorful materials are popped pool floaties!

What an honor it was to watch your faces light up when you picked up a pair of scissors, started cutting, creating and connecting with one another over crafts.

Hope to see you Saturday at Flock Artfest and hope you make time to create this weekend.

Last month a library patron pulled up a chair and read me an excerpt from their book while I sewed, I heard so many passersby comment on what a lovely service this is and everyone who participated left with a huge grin on their face when their item was fixed.

Grateful for our trifecta of libraries that have let me show up each month and crazy appreciative of Resource Renew who continues to back this service making it absolutely free for the community.

I continue to hope this reaches the people who find it useful and that it spreads a little ripple of good into the world.

One of the great things about being an adult is having the discretionary income to buy the artist version, the original thing or if you’re really lucky- both!

Which color did you have (or want)?

I’ve just released a small collection of small art each with a story to tell, each inspired by memories of summer and each made from the materials that help build our summer memories.

Over the years I’ve collected popped kiddie pools, water balloon straws and even a bounce house in hopes of giving them new life. This is a slow process as I am one human and there is a crap ton of trash.

My hope is that sharing the journey may encourage an awareness that sparks a small change. I hope I can help you see the beauty in the discarded if we view it a little differently. And I hope they make their way to your walls to enjoy.

Something about this sprinkle jar. Something about rolling down the baking aisle as a kid in a shopping cart and being mesmerized by tiny colorful lines in a small plastic bottle. The excitement when Mom let me put one into the cart.

Something about getting to experience all of that again- the aisle, the cart, but now as the mom. And something about uncovering and solidifying all of those memories by making a jar of sprinkles out of water balloon straws and a popped pool floaty and sharing it with others who hold something similar.

Dropping a small collection of small art made with the most summery materials next week. I hope you’ll stick around to see it.

Bring me your ripped clothes, your missing buttons, your holey sweaters. I will sew patches and repair as best I can and I hope you find a good book to read while you wait.
