🍂For anyone who grew up in the golden age of after-school specials, this 1973 animated classic was required viewing every November. No streaming. No DVR. No “watch again” button. You caught it on TV once a year, or you waited 12 long months like a patient, responsible Gen Xer. Character-building stuff.

This special gave us:
🦃 Snoopy cooking a “meal” that would’ve made our moms shake their heads 🍽️ Peppermint Patty inviting herself over like every neighborhood kid we grew up with
🎹 And that Vince Guaraldi soundtrack that still hits us right in the feels

Thanksgiving just felt different back then — big tables, mismatched plates, cousins running wild, and adults who told you to “go play outside” until the turkey was ready. And somehow… it was perfect.

Here’s to a little throwback comfort today — and to the cartoon crew that taught us gratitude, friendship, and how to serve toast like a champ. 🧡

Happy Thanksgiving, Gen X. We’re still the coolest kids at the table. 🥧🍁

🎶On this day in music, November 13, 1982, Men At Work started a 15-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with their debut album 'Business As Usual', which went on to sell over five million copies in the US.

The song you're hearing, which will now be stuck in your head for the rest of the day? Huge hit from this album, and yes, we are that old! "Down Under" topped the charts in Australia, the UK, and the US. Another big one from this album was "Who Can It Be Now?".

🎵My brain does this at least once a month and I'm not even mad about it. 😂

The Greatest American Hero (1981-1983) was pure chaotic Gen X energy. A regular guy gets a super suit from aliens, loses the instruction manual, and just... wings it. Literally. The flying scenes where he's flailing around? Peak comedy.

And that theme song? Still living rent-free in my head 40+ years later. You know you're singing it right now too.

William Katt stumbling through being a superhero while trying to teach high school was exactly the kind of TV we needed. No brooding. No dark backstory. Just a dude in red pajamas trying his best and crashing into things.

Who else randomly bursts into the theme song for absolutely no reason? Just me?🎵

Back in the 80s, losing your phone was impossible. It was literally tethered to the wall. The worst that could happen? Getting tangled in that spiral cord while trying to stretch it into the next room for privacy.

No "Find My iPhone." No panic about cloud backups. Just pure, simple, corded communication.

Who else remembers these bad boys? Drop a 📞 if you spent hours on one of these talking to your friends!

📺 Remember the days before streaming, when The Wizard of Oz airing on TV was a scheduled event?

It wasn't a choice; it was an annual broadcast, and you had to plan your entire evening around it. Miss it? Too bad. See you next year. The scarcity made it a cultural moment—a shared experience that actually meant something, not just background noise.

We were parked in front of the set, left to entertain ourselves until the actual special came on. It taught us patience and, frankly, how to handle boredom. Benign neglect at its finest.

And let's be real: between the flying monkeys and the Wicked Witch melting, it was probably a little terrifying, and our parents were too busy being unavailable to notice the subsequent nightmares. Whatever. We're fine. (We're not fine, but that’s fine.)

Now, we can watch it whenever we want, which is great, but also... where's the grit? Where's the anticipation? It's just another app icon. Participation trophies for TV viewing. Sigh.

Drop your favorite cynical Oz memories below.

When your entire Halloween costume came from a box at Kmart and doubled as a sauna suit.
We couldn’t see, couldn’t breathe, and those eyeholes cut into our cheeks like medieval torture devices—but we got that candy.
Kids today will never know the smell of your own hot breath trapped in a Strawberry Shortcake mask. 🍬😷🎃
