Vintage pieces are what make a home feel collected—not copied.

Have you ever walked into a home and wondered why it felt so warm, welcoming, and memorable? Chances are it wasn’t because every item was brand new. It was because the space had history, texture, and character.

Adding vintage home décor is one of the easiest ways to create a home that feels personal instead of looking like it came straight from a catalog.

A weathered clay pot that has softened with age. An old wooden stool that now holds a favorite candle or stack of books. A handcrafted bowl with an imperfect finish. These are the pieces that naturally draw your eye because they tell a story. No two are exactly alike, and that’s exactly what makes them beautiful.

One of the biggest decorating mistakes people make is filling every corner with new items that all match or the opposite, nothing feels cohesive. Their home looks like it came right from a big-box-store shelf. Or it all came from the shelves of the discount store and you don’t know what they actually like. Instead, try mixing a couple vintage décor pieces with your favorite modern pieces. The contrast creates depth and gives your home the layered, collected look that designers love.

Here are a few easy ways to decorate with vintage finds:

🤍 Style an antique clay vessel on open shelving or your kitchen island near a stack of books and small plant.

🤍 Use a vintage wooden stool as a riser for candles, plants, or seasonal décor.

🤍 Add an old pottery bowl to a coffee table to hold beads, matches, or simply let it stand on its own.

🤍 Mix aged wood, worn pottery, and natural textures with newer pieces for a home that feels timeless rather than trendy.

Vintage decor isn’t about making your home look old. It’s about adding authentic character, creating conversation pieces, and choosing items that feel like they’ve lived a life before becoming part of yours.

At Styled Abode, we believe the most beautiful homes are built over time. They’re filled with meaningful pieces that don’t chase trends—they create stories. That’s why we’re always on the lookout for vintage pieces. Creating a small but carefully curated a collection of vintage home décor, antique-inspired pottery, weathered wood accents, and one-of-a-kind decorative pieces that bring warmth and personality into your home. Every item is selected to help you create a space that feels calm, intentional, and uniquely yours.

Yesterday was one of those days that makes you pause and take inventory of what is most important.

Our family raises kosher turkeys for Agri Star in Postville and yesterday morning we got word that the processing facility was on fire. With little information outside of “it’s bad” we decided to head up to Postville to see what we could find out.

It was, indeed, very bad. We watched livestock trailers pull in one after the other in an attempt to save what they could. Multiple fire departments were there. For over 17 hours. Amazingly, everyone made it out of the fire. But what broke my heart were the people we saw sitting at a distance watching it burn.

Some were clearly there out of curiosity. But so many looked crushed. This is their livelihood, and they sat in yards and watched it burn from sun up to sun down. You could see the uncertainty and the questions on their faces. Just like I could see the weight of uncertainty on my husbands face as he realized those baby birds coming tomorrow need to be cancelled while also trying to figure out what is going to happen to the barn full of birds that are ready for market in 4 days.

But we know to look for the helpers when tragedy strikes, you’ll always find them. We heard about people coming to feed and support the volunteer first responders. We heard about people who are setting up ways to help and support those who just lost their jobs. And we found people who were willing to pitch in and help us find solutions for the grown turkeys.

Yesterday was a reminder of what makes northeast Iowa so special. People truly care. They show up. They call. They pitch in. And the support, the calls, and the offers for help all mean something. Please continue to help those families who have lost so much all at once. You’re truly the best northeast Iowa 💛

Can we settle a friendly debate?

If you could only use one woven basket in your home, where would it go?

✔️In the living room for blankets?
✔️On the entry table to catch keys and mail?
✔️ In the kitchen for fruit or bread?
✔️In the bathroom for towels?
✔️In a nursery or playroom?
✔️Or somewhere we haven’t thought of?

We love baskets because they’re one of those rare pieces that are both beautiful and useful. They bring warmth, texture, and organization to just about any room.
