*** SNOW DAY WATCH ***
Issued: 11:25am CST
By: HLEW Broadcast HQ - Washington, MO
A Snow Day Watch has been issued for much of the HLEW Viewing Region for Wednesday - January 25, 2023. A large storm system is taking aim towards the St. Louis area for Tuesday Night into Wednesday. It may initially start as some onset rain but is currently expected to bring mostly accumulating snow to a large part of the region.
At this time - exact track, snow totals, and timing remains uncertain. However, confidence continues to increase that an impactful winter storm capable of producing widespread 3”+ amounts could be in the making. Possibly several more inches if this tuns into a snow bomb with cooler surface temperatures helping to limit melting.
As such, a Snow Day Watch has been issued in advance of the impending storm system so preparations can begin taking place should this storm develop as currently modeled. Keep in mind a Watch only means conditions at this time appear to be favorable for snow development and is still uncertain until a subsequent warning is issued. The most concerning aspects to this storm which make it difficult at this time to predict snowfall amounts are the marginal surface temperatures and exact track of the surface low.
At this time teachers and admin are advised to begin preparing for a day of alleviation. Parents should check the liquor cabinet to ensure it is well stocked, plan to make major adjustments to your schedule and mental mindset should school cancellations be necessary. For those traveling, roadways may become a major concern by Wednesday Morning. Stay Tuned.
