Here's another repurposing project. This time a peanut can and size 4T cargo shorts were used. I was able to fit 3 pockets around the outside of the can, making a cute little project tin.

This repurposing project started as a collaboration between myself, the Environmental Action Community (eacwnc.org), and Haywood Christian Ministries/Haywood Commons (hcmnc.org). Bekah at HCM contacted the EAC to see if we would set up a table demonstrating ways to repurpose thrifted items. As you've seen in my portfolio, I like to reuse pockets from cargo pants. I also drink a of coffee and am frustrated that the cardboard cans are not recyclable. I have seen tool pouches that fit around a 5 gallon bucket, so I thought the same concept could create a project can. Here, one leg of a children's 10/12 pair of cargo shorts fit nicely around the can. The other pockets were then sewn onto that leg to make a total of 3 pockets around the can. The cover can be removed for washing, the lid still fits on top, and a handle was added for easy transport.

If you're near Waynesville, be sure to check out Bekah's series of Second Hand Workshops the 2nd Saturday of each month.

I may have solved one of my fashion dilemmas today. When I travel, I have to take my hiking boots and don't always have room for another pair of shoes. Then when I'm not on the trail and want to dress a little nicer to explore cities, go to art museums, eat in a nice (for me) restaurant, the hiking boots don't fit my style. First, I polished the boots with black boot polish, then I found a basic pattern for spats at the Digital Pattern Shop (www.etsy.com/shop/DigitalPatternShop)and tweaked it to make them reversible. I used fabric and strap scraps I already had. Sure, in the end they are still clunky hiking boots, but at least they how have a little flare.

The owner of this shirt wanted to try a new look. Instead of tucking his shirt in, he wanted the bottom of the shirt squared off and hemmed to wear untucked. The excess fabric was removed and a new rolled hem sewn.

A big Thank You to Lisa at Bear Creek Supply custom embroidery and printing in Waynesville (bearcreeksupply.com) for connecting me with this job. The Lake Junaluska Security team is getting new uniforms, and I was hired to sew all the patches on the shirts.

Summer's on its' way and this owner's favorite summer party shirt was starting to fall apart. There were several small holes in various places and one entire stripe down the front of the shirt had separated. The smaller holes were patched from behind, and then the compromised stripe was covered with a matching accent piece, making the shirt even more festive.
