Goodfellow Fund The Goodfellow Fund is the Star-Telegram's holiday charity and was founded by Star-Telegram employees in 1912. Your help is needed and appreciated.

The Goodfellow Fund provides clothing and shoes for underprivileged Tarrant County school-age children during the holiday season. The Goodfellow Fund depends solely on the generosity of the community to assist underprivileged school-age children. For the past several years the need for clothes and shoes for qualifying Tarrant County school-age children has exceeded community support.

* Donations


In the 2011 campaign, the generous Star-Telegram community raised enough funds to provide shoes and clothing to approximately 20,000 local children. With your help, Fund officials are hopeful that the 2012 campaign will also be able to serve the first 20,000 qualified children. You can donate using either our secure online form now or you may mail a donation to us. Our mailing address is: The Goodfellow Fund, PO Box 1870, Fort Worth, TX, 76101. Thank you in advance for your donation and support of The Goodfellow Fund. Under IRS guidelines, your contribution is fully deductible since The Goodfellow Fund, a tax-exempt organization under Section 501 (C) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, has not provided you with any benefits in return for your contribution.

* Volunteers
Volunteers are needed throughout the campaign to process the thousands of requests for assistance. Your help in reviewing applications and in addressing envelopes with appointment letters outlining the date and time for the applicant interview will be greatly appreciated. Volunteers are also needed to interview families to ensure they meet eligibility criteria. If you would like to be a volunteer, please call the volunteer line at 817-289-0498 or email [email protected]. In 1914, a lyric-writing contest for a Goodfellows Club song included this one from a Re*****on typewriter saleswoman named Alice Haliburton.

In the days following a November 1912 front-page invitation for Star-Telegram readers to “be Santa Claus” to needy children, appeals in a column of Twitter-length notices called Little Locals urged “men & boys” to join The Goodfellows Club.
