A thousand-year-old Viking record. A 1,433-pound log. And one actor who made history look easy.

Hafþór Björnsson didn't just win the World's Strongest Viking competition—he obliterated a legend that had stood since the days of longships and sagas. The Icelander Orm Storulfsson had managed three steps with that monstrous 10-meter mast before his back shattered under the strain. It took 50 men just to load it onto him.

The Mountain took five steps. No broken back. No hesitation. Just pure, terrifying strength that left a millennium-old record in the dust.

He walked away with the title and a message for anyone who doubted: "NOTHING CAN STOP ME!! NOTHING CAN BREAK ME!!"

Texas' Longest and Bloodiest Feud

On August 26, 1870, Texas State Police arrested brothers Henry and Will Kelly during the Sutton-Taylor Feud. The brothers never made it to trial—they were shot and killed by their captors.

The killings caused such outrage that Governor Edmund J. Davis eventually dismissed State Police captain Jack Helm. But the violence was far from over.

The Sutton-Taylor Feud would become the longest and bloodiest feud in Texas history—and Helm wouldn't survive it either.

The Day Spanish Texas Ended

On August 24, 1821, the Treaty of Córdoba recognized Mexican independence from Spain—and Texas changed countries.

After generations as a remote northern province of New Spain, Texas became part of independent Mexico. The new nation soon turned to the empresario system to populate its enormous frontier, bringing thousands of new settlers into Texas.

Just fifteen years later, Texas would fight another war for independence.

The Bloodiest Battle in Texas History Wasn't the Alamo

On August 18, 1813, the Battle of Medina became the bloodiest battle ever fought on Texas soil. An army fighting to break Spanish rule was virtually destroyed south of San Antonio—and a young Spanish officer named Antonio López de Santa Anna was there to witness it.

More than two decades before the Alamo, Texans had already fought and died for independence.

On August 15, 1872, ten Texas frontiersmen chased a lone scout near Deer Creek in Blanco County—and rode straight into an ambush.

Outnumbered nearly three to one, they fought their way out, carried their wounded to safety, and were later honored by the State of Texas with Model 1873 Wi******er rifles.
