UNEARTHED: A class of first-graders on a school trip near Brandbu, Norway, spotted a Viking sword sticking out of the ground — a weapon archaeologists say belonged to a high-status warrior who may have advised a local chieftain.
The single-edged blade, dating to roughly 750-850 A.D., was found just 131 feet from an Iron Age burial site with small mounds, suggesting it originally came from a grave disturbed by centuries of farming.
