It’s amazing to know that we can bring beauty into the homes of our neighbors.

We stopped by Rhetts Country Market this afternoon to drop off some cases of our sausage, and I just couldn’t leave without one of these gorgeous bouquets from Jarhead Homestead. I’m a sucker for native flower arrangements!

Jarhead Homestead is a local homestead run by two Marine Corps veterans who grow flowers, raise food, and share their homesteading journey with our community.

One of my favorite things about working with local businesses is getting to support other hardworking folks doing the same. If you’re stopping by Rhetts to enjoy some of our Gibson Farm & Ranch sausage for breakfast, be sure to check out the beautiful bouquets from Jarhead Homestead while you’re there. You won’t be disappointed. 🌿

Soo much room for activities

We decided that the goats need some more space in their permanent pen, so we decided to expand. Giving them some more room for activities and us the ability to separate them as needed we are excited to see the facilities starting to take shape the way we want them. Hopefully we will get the barn expanded and finished out well before winter so our four-legged work force can be as comfortable as possible when things cool back down this winter.

Gold Bars

This week's treat is as simple as it is delicious. Peanut butter, honey, cheerio bars make an excellent low effort snack and sweet treat. Simple ingredients leave room to add any of your personal favorites to truly make them your own. Adding some brewer's yeast and flaxseed turn these into a terrific lactation support snack for all the nursing mommas out there. What would you add to your bars?

Snacks n Sips

We interrupted some water cooler chat to shoot a quick video of Hank and the ladies during break time. These guys have been growing and doing an awesome job of clearing out dense underbrush, showing us potential and possibilities on the property that we didn't know existed.

POV, You're a pollinator

It can be a pain when the flowers don't want to sit still for our pollinators. Luckily, they are professionals and are specially equipped to take on such challenges. A big thankyou to all the Bees, Butterflies, and Moths for their hard work and dedication in keeping our flowers pollinated.

Knock Knock

One of these days I think I'm going to have to leave the door open just to see what our reoccurring visitors do. Our small dinosaurs here have grown quite accustomed to their daily treats of various scraps flung carefully from the porch when I'm cleaning up after meals. They definitely notice and start loitering if they don't get their treat. Remember folks your chances of being killed by a disgruntled chicken are low... but not zero.

Growing up

The tomatoes sure enjoyed this wet weather we have been having. After being carefully tended to by the chickens they are really starting to take off.

Saving it for a rainy day

Using some of our beans we set aside from the other day we cooked and canned up a batch of our favorite chili recipe for those nights we don't feel like cooking. Making higher quality convenience foods to help us out on those longer days is something we have been working on for a while. Learning to can has been a big step in achieving this dream and we are excited to learn more as we go.

Baking the world a better place

With mom back in action for this week's sweet treat, it seems she may have been a little rusty. Tackling this delicious recipe from Homesteading Family, she may have had to upgrade her pan size mid bake, resulting in a unique finish on the top, it did not do anything to damage these seriously delectable brownies. These things are truly awesome. Try them out for yourself at the link below and you will be glad that you did. Just be sure to use the right pan size.
