There are four components to the Special People Meet organization.
1. Social Networking Website: The website component is designed to serve a population of people who currently find it quite challenging to communicate with others outside of their immediate family. This website will shine a light on new technological opportunities for assisting the target population in overcoming communication cha
llenges, which in turn limit their social experience with others. It will allow adult persons with developmental disabilities to communicate on a nationally and internationally level with others like themselves. They will have an opportunity to share information, post blogs/comments on their website page, create their own special interest groups/clubs, advertising, email, photos, videos, music, resources, support and a geographical map showing other website members. Other discussion topics may include information updates regarding law changes, which have a direct impact on benefits, SSI benefits, housing, employment, training, etc.
2. Apparel Store: Allows SPM members to purchase items, via website, they would like (jackets, t-shirts, cups/mugs/glasses, key chains and other memorabilia).
3. Speakers:SPM will hold community functions having disability advocates and other persons directly impacted by developmental disabilities to share information relative to social functions in their current geographical area and abroad.
4. Community Chapters:Will be established in communities to assist persons with developmental disabilities locating social functions in their immediate geographical living area, upcoming events, social fundraisers and other entertainment events.
