New England vibes 🌊 🫐

One thing I love about being a vendor at Freckle Salvage is the freedom to mix in wholesale products in my booth. I’m excited to slowly add more items to my space for the fall & holiday season that will be perfect for gifting, when a vintage piece just doesn’t quite fit.

I spent a lot of time choosing a handful of products from small businesses that I feel would be quality, thoughtful gifts for anyone.

In addition to the YAM linen & room sprays - by a woman owned small Maine company (they all smell amazing!) - I just added a selection of Loon Chocolate bars from New Hampshire. Small batch, bean to bar, ethically sourced, and delicious! (Yes, I sampled them 😋)

Happy August - let’s soak up every last day of summer here in Maine!

Joking aside, do I think estate sales are the best place to bring kids? No. But, there’s more to that answer.

If you’re going at the start of Day 1 and expect there to be a large crowd of serious shoppers, I think it’s not a great environment for kids. We’ve all seen grown adults running and shoving to get the vintage goods, and I don’t want my kids being in the middle of that.

Know your kids and their responsibility levels - will there be a lot of delicate & breakable items? Keep a close eye on the little ones so nothing gets broken accidentally! My girls are old enough now that I don’t have to worry about them being out of my sight browsing, and I know they will be careful and respectful.

Don’t mind saying “no” to 500 requests to buy jewelry, typewriters, or beanie babies? Then estate sale shopping with your kids might be for you! 😆

This mornings estate sale was one of those that made me leave with a mix of emotions. I was excited to come home with some really great vintage finds, but also sad to see a person’s belongings sold off to the public.

These strands of paper beads were casually hung over a bedroom doorknob. I thought they were so pretty and would be a fun addition to my booth so I picked them up and added them to my bag!

When I checked out, I was told that the family would take wrapping paper scraps from each Christmas, and make a strand of paper beads. This is 9 years of someone’s Christmas memories. 🥹 I also picked up this small oval frame of a boy, named Perley. My daughter also bought a vintage bridal veil that belonged to a woman named Gloria.

Estate sales are always a better option than throwing away these items. There’s so much history here even if it’s just important to one specific family - I think that’s what people who enjoy vintage and antiques appreciate - knowing that there’s a story behind each piece that they pick up and choose to bring into their own home.

I hope Perley & Gloria will be happy to see their items passed on to another generation ☺️

New pieces are being added at Freckle Salvage Company ! I hate to even say this, but it’s time to start thinking about changing seasons so I’ll be slowly bringing in some warmer colors and fall vibes over the next few weeks 🍁
