Shaking Off Loss and Coming Back Stronger
“Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him.” – Job 13:15
In pickleball, losing a match you know you could have won stings. The missed opportunities, the errors, the “what-ifs” replay in your mind. But what separates great players is what happens after the loss. Do you dwell on it? Or do you shake it off, go back to the lab, train harder, and come back stronger?
Job’s story in the Bible is a profound example of perseverance after devastating loss. Job lost everything—his wealth, health, and family—yet he remained steadfast in his faith. He questioned, he grieved, but he didn’t give up on God. In the end, his faith and perseverance were rewarded, and God restored him, giving him even more than he had before (Job 42:10-12).
The lesson here is that loss isn’t the end; it’s an opportunity to grow. Like Job, we can bring our pain and disappointment to God, trusting that He is working all things for our good. In pickleball and in life, setbacks are a chance to refine our skills, strengthen our resolve, and deepen our trust in God.
When you experience a loss, whether it’s on the court or in life, don’t let it define you. Learn from it. Train harder. Pray deeper. And come back stronger, knowing that God is with you every step of the way.
Challenge:
Identify one area—whether in your game or your personal life—where you’ve experienced a loss. Take a moment to reflect on what you can learn from it, and commit to taking one step toward improvement this week.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being with me in my losses and setbacks. Teach me to shake off disappointment and turn to You for strength. Help me to learn, grow, and come back stronger in faith, knowing that You are my ultimate coach and guide. Amen.
