I was delighted to stitch these NC shirts for our friend Mark Campbell and his nonprofit Crutches4Africa.
Here is a little more about this incredible mission.
“Raleigh Area Friends, I am starting a collection site locally for a 501c3 non-profit called Crutches4Africa. They collect used and new mobility equipment and ship it overseas to developing nations to be distributed free of charge. They look for crutches, ankle boots, walkers, wheelchairs, canes, leg braces, knee braces, prosthetic legs, air casts, baby jogging strollers, bicycle trailers, rollators, etc.
I have been meeting and talking with their founder, David, over the last few months. I connected him with my friend, Faustine (in Tanzania), and we are trying to arrange a shipment of mobility equipment from the US to TZ.
I asked David if we could start a collection site here in this area and he said that would be great. C4A is based in Colorado with collection sites around the US.
During our visit to Tanzania last summer we visited a rehab center. We found out that there is a lack of resources and money to support those with disabilities. Furthermore, the center services many local tribal villages (such as the Maasai tribe) and disabled people are often cast aside and treated like a curse. Sadly, many of them are left alone and uncared for by their families. It tugged at my heart. This rehab center is one of very few options for those citizens to get any type of physical therapy, health care, food and social activity.
Being connected with C4A has given me the opportunity to send help to those people in desperate need. We will be filling a 40 foot shipping container full of donated mobility equipment. Can you connect me with anyone you feel would align with this mission? That could be heatlh care providers, care facilities/communities, and medical supply houses. I would love to be in touch with anyone that comes to your mind about recycling old mobility equipment for the purpose of shipping it to Africa. Maybe you have mobility equipment in your garage or attic that is collecting dust. We can put it to good use!
