The talented Destin Daniel Cretton directed the upcoming Spider Man: Brand New Day (2026), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Short Term 12, The Glass Castle, Just Mercy, the recent Wonder Man series, American Born Chinese, and several other films.
We are so proud to see one of Hawai`i’s own develop and soar high in the film industry. Destin’s journey is the ultimate “indie-to-icon” story. He started out working at a group home for at-risk teenagers - an experience that inspired his breakthrough film, Short Term 12, and introduced the world to some serious talent (looking at you, Brie Larson)
After capturing hearts on the festival circuit, he made the massive leap to marvel, helming the groundbreaking Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (We demand a sequel btw, Marvel Studios 🥺).
Known for his deep empathy and focus on human connection, Destin proves that you don’t have to lose your soul to make a blockbuster.
