Textile Art at its Finest
Deep in the heart of Turkey lies a small sleepy village of weavers who drink their çay (tea) over their wooden looms. The textile creations from their looms hang from clotheslines and balconies throughout the town, whispering in the breeze. This little town is still believed to house unrivaled artisans, whose textile traditions are passed down from generation to generation from the time of the mythology. This is a place that produces textiles with no factory in sight.
This small sleepy village is losing this tradition.
DreamWeavers is all about dreams, ours and yours, for a better world. Textile production is one of the major polluting industries today. But this wasn’t always the case and it doesn’t have to continue to be. Our textiles are made in the foothills of Anatolia Turkey, where the tradition of hand-loomed towels and textiles stretches back to the days of the Sultans, and to the days of Marc Anthony gifting Cleopatra a natural bath atop the hills of Pamukale, Turkey. The families of master weavers from this region have been creating eco-friendly cotton textiles on traditional wooden looms for eons. Royalty and myths have used these textiles.
Unfortunately, factory produced textiles have threatened this art-form even within the country of Turkey and younger families have started to turn away from this traditional craft due to economic hardship weavers face in trying to compete with mass manufactured textiles. Our dream is to support these artisans and families and keep this textile tradition alive for eons to come. DreamWeavers is about continuing the weaving tradition as portion of our sales must go towards the continuing training and apprenticeship of young weavers and to the restoration of traditional wooden looms. In order to preserve this textile art-form, we must invest in its future. Your purchases are an investment in that dream that we’ve taken from deep in the heart of Turkey to deep in the heart of Texas.
