Community, we have a unique opportunity to do a lot of good with one single purchase.

If you have been down to GRS Creations & Fabrics in Old Town Spring lately, you might have seen the eight incredible quilts currently on display. Right now, these quilts are all 20% off. They are beautiful, functional pieces of textile art, but we want to give them an even bigger purpose.

We are looking for community members to purchase these quilts and donate them to the Men’s Textile Collective Foundation. From there, we will be hand-delivering them to our friends at (MGP) the next time our team goes down to volunteer.

MGP does vital work in our community, and they are always in need of quality blankets to keep their youth warm, comfortable, and cared for.

To make this even better, Renee, the wonderful leader of GRS Fabrics, is stepping up to help. If you buy one of these display quilts and choose to donate it to MTCF for the MGP drive, Renee will give you an additional discount at checkout.

Community in Action: Supporting Montrose Grace Place

Last night, the MTCF team had the wonderful opportunity to catch up with while volunteering at (MGP). Danni is a long-time, avid crocheter, and we first met her during our MTCF knitting and crochet workshops at MGP.

Today, Danni has come full circle. She now works at MGP, giving back to the very organization that has been a cornerstone of her own journey since she was 17. We could not be prouder to see her leadership in action, and we want to support her in supporting the MGP community.

The Full-Circle Project

To help Danni work her creative magic, MTCF is supplying her with a steady stream of yarn. She will be crafting blankets, hats, hand warmers, and scarves. Every single piece she makes will be donated directly to Tracey’s Closet, a vital resource where youth can access the items they need.

"Building community isn't about one person saving another. It is about providing the tools and resources so we can all lift each other up."

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, and sometimes the best way to clear a racing mind is to give your hands something to do.

Sitting still with your thoughts can be tough. That is where the fiber arts come in. When your hands are locked into a steady, rhythmic motion, your brain finally gets a physical anchor. It gives you the space to slow down, find a flow state, and just breathe.

Taking care of your mental health doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it’s as simple as taking it one stitch at a time.

Taking that first step is usually the hardest part of learning something new. Staring down a sewing machine or a pair of knitting needles can make anyone feel a little anxious.

Our Treasurer, Matt DeVolder, has wanted to learn to sew for a long time. He finally took the plunge, sat down at the machine, and finished his very first project. Is it absolutely flawless? Not quite. But the rush of excitement that comes from actually making something with your own hands beats perfection every single time.

It’s okay to be a beginner and it’s okay if your first project is a little rough around the edges. The important part is that you started.

Memorial Day can carry a heavy weight. When finding the right words feels difficult, many of us turn to the steady rhythm of making things by hand. Whether you are knitting, crocheting, or just sitting quietly with your thoughts, we hope you can find a quiet moment of peace and flow today.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: SCOUT & SKEIN

Our roots with go deep. Back in March 2025, Kate held a yarn swap that jump-started our mission, donating every leftover skein to help us build this community from the ground up. Her support has been a constant in our logistics ever since.

Now, we are gearing up to do it again.

Join us for a Stitch N' Bitch and Yarn Swap on June 9th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. We’ll be set up at Brazos Bookstore in West Houston for an evening of craft, community, and resource sharing.

Just like last year, any yarn left over from the swap will be donated directly to the MTCF mission to fuel our upcoming school programs and community builds. Whether you have yarn to swap or just want to get some rows in with a solid crew, we want you there.

Kate, thank you for being a pillar for MTCF and for consistently creating space for every maker in Houston.

We are heading to Brazos Bookstore for a special evening dedicated to craft and conversation. In honor of Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re gathering to highlight the therapeutic power of the fiber arts. Whether you are a master of the needles or just picked up a crochet hook yesterday, there is a seat for you at the table.

Texas summers are hot, but the vibes at the bookstore will be cool. Come hang out, work on your current project, and meet some fellow makers in the Houston community.

It is time to get out of the house and craft in the wild. Join us on June 13th from 1 to 4 PM at Paradigm Brewing for International Knit in Public Day. 🧶🍻

Bring your knitting needles, crochet hooks, or whatever fiber project you are currently working on. It is a perfect excuse to grab a cold drink, find your flow state, and hang out with a great community.

Never picked up a needle or hook before? Come anyway. Pull up a chair and we will teach you the basics. We always have folks ready to help you get started.
