Wool and Salt

Wool and Salt Handmade in Coastal California My name is Stephanie and I'm the hands behind Wool and Salt. If it is yarn, I will knit it. It feels like home.

I hand knit and crochet all of the items you'll find here in my shop and I use all sorts of different fibers. I have two young boys who both have sensitive skin so I tend to use a lot of premium acrylics and cottons, however I do not discriminate against other fibers. I have been knitting and crocheting for as long as I can remember and in 2015 I started Wool and Salt as a way to earn money doing

something I really enjoy. After selling beanies at the beach for a few years, I decided to make the jump to opening up my own shop here on Etsy. Wool and Salt combines my love for fiber arts and the California beaches where I grew up. The cool sand in your toes, the salty feel in your hair, and cozying up in a squishy soft beanie after a chilly surf session.

Scrunchies! They’re up in the shop now and there’s 19 different colors to choose from. I’m calling them Gidget, a call out to one of my favorite movies as a kid. I wasn’t in existence when it was released (1959!) but it spoke to me when I was growing up. Not the creepy “teen girl falls for a man as old as her father” thing (why do movies still keep following this narrative, anyway?) but the “teen girl just wants to surf” thing. I wanted to be just like Francie, aka Gidget, and surf all day, no matter what anyone else said. Moondoggie and Big Kahuna could go kick rocks.

The weather is changing and, while it’s still pretty chilly in the early mornings and late nights, it’s getting to be too warm for a beanie. Or in my case, for my long ass covid hair to be hanging around like a clingy friend. If you know me, you know my hair is always up and away from my face. So here’s a sneak peak into what I’ve been doing lately. Trying to find cuter ways to contain the madness. Scrunchies will be up in the shop soon with more colors to choose from.

Swell. The beanie that started as a “weird” request from my Rad Dad and ended up a reality I didn’t know I could make come true. He has had many versions of this beanie over the years and I still love to make them. I have a few up in the shop, in adult and kid sizes alike.

1. Chocolate and Mint
2. Yellow and Turquoise
Both are available along with various other color combinations. Don’t see a combo you like? Send me a message!

New colors of Shaka and Stylie beanies! My favorite color is turquoise so I’m partial to these turquoise beauties, but I can’t deny the pull of this rusty orange. Especially since summer is on its way here in Southern California. I like summer, but I’d like it a lot more without the triple digit heat we’ve been getting lately. This rust reminds me of cooler weather and I am here for it. Click the link in my bio to shop or visit woolandsalt.etsy.com.

It’s that time of year when cooking dinner makes the house hotter than it is outside. Without a working air conditioner it’s not the most fun experience but this color reminds me of October so I’m outside in the cool air, knitting, while my kids get filthy with chalk. This beanie, and a few other new colors, will be coming to my shop soon! 🧶

I’ve been busy. Boy oh boy, have I been busy. I revamped my Etsy shop and did an overhaul of some things that I wasn’t happy with. Some things are on sale, some things are new, all the things are handmade by me. Come on over! Check it out! Do the thing! Links in bio to shop.

I’m not so good at posting on the regular (anyone else a parent to two wild beasts? 🙋🏻‍♀️ No? Just me then?) but I am going to do my best to update more in the future.

It has been really chilly here over the last few weeks and we had one day of so much rain that my boys played in puddles that were more like wading pools. We’ve got a few of these styles laying around the house to grab when we go out and they are so cozy! A chunky, squishy, incredibly soft knit hat that keeps you toasty warm.

I’ve got these colors up in the shop right now and more on the way. Contact me in DMs or at [email protected] for customs. Shop at Etsy.com/shop/woodlandsalt or click the link in my bio.

I had so much fun making this adorable Rams “helmet” for an LA Rams fan who’s expecting their first, a baby boy, early next year. This special order was close to my heart as well because it will belong to the next baby in my extended family. He is coming at the perfect time. Just when our spirits need a lot of lifting. Congratulations to my cousins .s and AJ! We can’t wait to squeeze him! 😍🏈🐏

Soaking up some sunshine while we still have it. It’s been gloomy and freezing most of the day. And by freezing I mean 65 degrees. That’s the official definition of freezing in SoCal. Don’t yell at me, I didn’t make it up. So here I sit, in the sun, *freezing*, and making hats.

What a beautiful place to live. I grew up here and recently moved back after 14 years in the Bay Area. I never thought I would return to SoCal but thanks to a certain pandemic we all know and love so much, my family had to relocate. I won’t go into details, but I will say this: I’m forever grateful to this place, and my family, for giving my husband, kids, and I somewhere to land when times got real rough. This is home once more and I’m falling in love with it all over again.
