There’s decisive, committed, directional, forward-moving action …. And then there’s, well, not that. Because sometimes the issue (aka problem, aka challenge, aka big giant growling monster of paralyzing fear) just creates a mental or physical (or both) standstill. And then what?

Mental blocks are inevitable. We all know the best advice is to just step away … what we do, see, feel, or hear in that step-away-ness is different for everyone.

One thing I can promise you as your stylist: through practice, experiences, coaching, natural talents, and flat-out love of this work, I commit to giving you the solutions you need to minimize these overwhelming feelings when you walk into your closet. Together we build formulas that align with who you are and what you want to convey as you show up in your life, so that the days of standing there staring in motionless bewilderment are over.

Sounds exciting, right? Click the link in my bio to schedule an initial visit to find out how we can move you past overwhelm and into a style of readiness and relevance. I can’t wait to meet you.

This one can sometimes be tough to grasp. We think that to be noticed means to be loud, or to be remembered means to be fringey or scandalous, or to be conspicuous is something to be feared. If you’re comfortable with boldness and outspokenness, heck yeah let your style support that! But if that’s just not you, will you get drowned out by those more bold and visible with their style? Maybe…! So how do you hold your own? With YOUR own style. YOURS. One that doesn’t shrink or hide or fade or blend in or apologize or whisper. Because being memorable can come in lots of forms … give people credit; they are able to pick up on (and evaluate) many more cues than just the obvious or loudest or shiniest ones.

If this sounds like just what you want — a stronger presence — but you don’t know how to get it, you’re in luck. I, my friend, DO know how to get it. And I can help you get there. Click the link in my bio to schedule an initial visit and let’s talk. I can’t wait to meet you.

Today’s brought to you directly by Gen Z. Here goes…..

Younger generation: keep being open, curious, vocal, strong, and uninhibited. You don’t realize it, but by your example, you’re gently undoing some inhibitions, hindrances, internalizations, and shrinking tendencies that those of us a generation (or two!) ahead of you grew up struggling with. So keep being your energetically open and free selves! 🫶

I have friends, clients, and family members who hate to shop. And I’m always like “whaaaaaaaaaaa….?????!!!!” Because that’s such a foreign concept to me. I love it. I mean, I LOVE. IT.

But shopping, as with anything, moderation is key. Maybe placing limits on purchases can prevent crowding out your poor partner’s belongings (I mean, he only has 18 square inches of closet space, so allow him at least that), or it can help reduce the mental load of overwhelm and excess that just makes you freeze in indecision and confusion (ok, what did I come in here for again?), or maybe it’s all about not busting the budget (because, hello, last I checked grocery prices were starting to require commas in their figures). So shopping can, and should, be tempered with some restraint. But boyyyy, the pull of that dopamine hit is powerful, isn’t it?

Your style relies on you and your intentional, discerning decisions. So if you want to shop better (or not shop at all and let someone else do it for you!), the link to schedule an initial visit is in my bio… Or DM me and I’ll send it to you. Just a 30 minute zoom call to talk about everything from your frustrations to your goals can start your styling experience and set you up for your best season yet.

I woke up this morning thinking (like many) about Dolly Parton.

I’m old enough to remember her on the Porter Waggoner show. I remember her in the 80s singing Islands in the Stream with Kenny Rogers. I remember how she remained fully recognizable, iconic, and groundbreaking thru the 90s up to the present. Her signature style … allllll that delicious excess and flashy superfluousness … never compromised. Dolly owned her style, hard. And because of that, it never ever came off as silly or pathetic. Her over-the-top style couldn’t be missed, yet it somehow miraculously took a back seat to her strength, conviction, brilliance, and humility.

I think that’s the true mark of the very best in personal style: no matter what is added to the surface, it only supports the soul underneath.

These are the kinds of snags I hear from my clients allllllll the time. And when I propose the fixes, my comments are nearly always met with, “Really??? You think? Are you sure?” (Insider tip: Yes. Yes I’m sure. Trust me 😉)

Why not try these simple, doable low-risk, low-stakes techniques? Especially right here as we’re in the cusp of a brand new season. These kinds of adjustments can freshen up your currently-owned favorites and be adapted to anything new you add in.

Try them out and let me know how you feel!

When a client tells me about an outfit she wore for the first time and was happy about the compliments she received about it, it’s a joy to celebrate that with her. HOWEVERRRR, I always immediately turn it around and ask “but how did you FEEL — yourself — even before you were in front of anyone?”

Because that’s the real test. Her answer to that question lets me know where we need to go from here. Do we need to dig a little deeper to discover how she wants to feel but doesn’t just yet? Or does she recognize that the external validation is really fun but not a gamechanger? (OR, a step further: do the backhanded “compliments” or the subversive side-eyes from others get noticed but not internalized because she’s secure in how she’s choosing to show up and is enjoying the experimentation and embracing the visibility?)

Listen, I’m NOT dismissing the practice of or power of compliments. I love it when I see others taking the time and effort to share a genuine compliment with someone; it’s a beautiful, selfless, affirming, loving reach-out. But it’s not the goal or purpose of discovering and expressing your personal style. Your own ownership is the main driver of that.

Want to feel that kind of ownership in how you show up in your life? I’m booking clients NOW for fall/winter, so go to the link in my bio to schedule an initial visit and let’s talk.

(P.S. when I tell you how many takes this video required because popping up from a low crouch isn’t as easy as it used to be ………🙄 …..😆)
