Over 160 years ago, John B. Stetson turned a single idea into what would become his namesake company. Just as his hats set a new standard for quality, Stetson strived to improve the quality of life for the more than 3,000 employees at his legendary Philadelphia factory. In an era of meager workers’ rights, Stetson paid good wages and offered extensive benefits, including bonuses, an on-site hospital with free health care, a company gymnasium complete with sports leagues, as well as profit sharing through company stock options.

Inside the factory walls, it was never only about the product. It was about the people behind it and a belief that craftsmanship and character go hand in hand.
