My Story
I have been a crafter since grade school when my maternal grandmother and a favorite aunt taught me how to crochet and do Swedish weaving. I learned to sew in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades and I went on from there into adulthood to learn knitting, macrame’, needle punch, embroidery, counted cross stitch and anything else creative that came along. Another favorite aunt taught me a unique way of candle making, and for many years, I thoroughly enjoyed making unity wedding candles using the bride and groom’s invitation as the focal and decorating the candles with flowers using their wedding colors, after painstakingly creating melted wax on the outside of the candle that resembled snow. I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every craft I have learned in my well seasoned journey through this life, but repetition can lead to boredom, so I was always searching for something new and different to literally get my hands into.
I discovered jewelry-making through a close friend, just a little over five years ago, and have never done anything before that has filled me with such passion and pure joy that making jewelry has given me. I love, love, love it!! It excites me and sets my creativity into motion unlike anything I have ever done. It sets my soul on fire! I have heard and also read many times throughout the years that one should find something you love and “do that", but never really knew what “that” meant until I started making jewelry. Wow. It opened up a huge new world! There are so many different facets of jewelry making that I am constantly learning new and different paths to explore! I’ve discovered new roads! I have studied hard and tackled hand stamping on metal, metal etching, the world of polymer clay, wire wrapping and weaving, and oooooh, WOWEE, it’s all so much FUN! I love organic things and all things in nature; metal, rocks, semi-precious stones and whatever else I can find to create a piece of jewelry from conception to the final creation. Every piece has its own journey and I always have a such a sense of satisfaction when I finish a piece. But, there is also a sense of loss, akin to nurturing something very special, tending to it with hands, heart and soul to form and complete its own, unique full circle, and then letting it go. Like a chrysalis turning into a butterfly.... something so plain and ordinary becomes transformed into a beautiful piece of art.
A large part of my jewelry making journey also includes quotes. I LOVE quotes. I call them little snippets of positive power packed bursts of information to help us on our life’s journey. To lift us up when we are struggling and to give us hope that in our darkest hours, there is light. To help us become all that we were meant to be. To realize that this too, shall pass, for everything in life changes and nothing stays the same. To share our struggles and triumphs and joys and to know that we are not alone, for we are all far more the same than we are different. All things are connected, as are we; we are all the same inside and love is the driving force. What is love? God is love and love is really all there is. We are all a part of that love and that love is all a part of us. Simple as that. ~
