These stunning bowls showcase the artistry of Hong Kong’s decorative porcelain industry from the mid-century period. The “Y.T. Decorated in Hong Kong” mark represents a fascinating era when Hong Kong was a significant center for porcelain decoration. During the 1960s-70s, due to trade restrictions with mainland China, many Hong Kong decorating houses like Y.T. commonly worked with fine porcelain blanks imported from Japan. These blank pieces would then be hand-painted in Hong Kong with traditional Chinese designs like this Rose Medallion pattern, creating beautiful pieces that found eager buyers in Western markets. While we do not know the origin of these particular blanks without additional markings, they represent this important period in Asian export porcelain history.
