๐Ÿ’› Disability Pride Month ๐Ÿ’›

Disability isn't one experience.

It can be visible or invisible. Temporary or lifelong. Physical, neurological, sensory, cognitive, or mental.

Behind every diagnosis is a person adapting, advocating, grieving, celebrating, resting, and finding ways to keep moving forward.

This carousel shares just a few experiences that many disabled people relate to. While no single post can capture every story, my hope is that more people feel understood, and more people gain a better understanding of disability.

Please share. Awareness changes lives.

This post was inspired by one of my original designs, available on apparel and accessories in the Unified By Design Shop on Etsy.

This post almost didn't get shared.

Not because I didn't want to celebrate Disability Pride Month.

Because I wanted to make sure I was doing it with humility.

I'm not disabled myself. I'm an ally who creates designs for the disability community. I spent a lot of time asking myself whether I was the right person to make a post like this.

The more I listened, the more I realized something.

Disability Pride Month doesn't need more people speaking over disabled voices. It needs more people willing to listen, learn, and keep learning.

This carousel isn't me trying to explain disability.

It's me sharing how the disability community has changed me.

Thank you to every customer who has trusted me with your story. Thank you to every creator, advocate, educator, family, and friend who has challenged my assumptions, expanded my perspective, and helped me become a better designer, listener, and ally.

I'm still learning. If I've missed something or there's something you think more allies should understand, I'm listening.

Happy Disability Pride Month!

I'd love to hear from you:
What's something you wish more people understood about disability?

Disabled isnโ€™t a bad word.

Itโ€™s a whole word for a whole person.

Still here.
Still proud.
Still worthy.
Still not shrinking to make ableism more comfortable.

Disability Pride is about rejecting shame and honoring every body and mind exactly as they are. Seen. Supported. Celebrated.

This design includes the Disability Pride Flag colors and what they represent:

โค๏ธ Physical disabilities
๐Ÿ’› Neurodiversity
๐Ÿค Invisible disabilities
๐Ÿ’™ Mental and emotional disabilities
๐Ÿ’š Sensory disabilities
๐Ÿ–ค Mourning and rage

Available now on shirts, sweatshirts, totes, and more in the shop.

More Disability Pride designs coming all year long because disability pride should be celebrated everyday. ๐Ÿ’ž

Happy Disability Pride Month โค๏ธ

The Disability Pride Flag was created by Ann Magill and redesigned in 2021 with community feedback to make it more visually accessible.
Each stripe tells a story:

โค๏ธ Red: physical disabilities
๐Ÿ’› Yellow: neurodiversity
๐Ÿค White: invisible and undiagnosed disabilities
๐Ÿ’™ Blue: emotional and psychiatric disabilities
๐Ÿ’š Green: sensory disabilities
๐Ÿ–ค Charcoal background: grief, rage, protest, and mourning for disabled lives harmed by ableism

The diagonal stripes represent cutting across the barriers disabled people are forced to fight through every day.

Disability isnโ€™t broken.

Itโ€™s culture, history, identity, community, grief, rage, pride, and a future worth making accessible.

This design is available on a variety of products in my shop, along with many more Disability Pride designs Iโ€™ll be sharing throughout the month.
Happy Disability Pride Month, baddies. ๐Ÿ’ž

We took a road trip from Texas to Tennessee this week and spent one afternoon exploring the SOMA district in Little Rock.

These words were stenciled onto the sidewalks throughout the neighborhood. We stopped to read every single one.

As someone who spends my days creating designs that help people feel seen, this felt like finding little reminders hidden in plain sight.
I hope one of these is exactly what someone here needed today. โค๏ธ

Migraine disease is not just head pain.

It is light sensitivity, nausea, sound sensitivity, brain fog, fatigue, recovery days, canceled plans, and trying to function while your body is begging for quiet.

This design is full of small reminders for the people who love a migraine warrior. Believe them. Make room for rest. Skip the perfume. Give grace when plans change. Keep showing up.

Support does not have to be complicated.

Sometimes it starts with, โ€œI believe you.โ€

Share this to help someone feel seen this Migraine Awareness Month. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿ’œ Hemiplegic Migraine Awareness ๐Ÿ’š

Hemiplegic migraine is a rare type of migraine that can cause weakness, numbness, vision changes, difficulty speaking, confusion, dizziness, and other neurological symptoms. The symptoms are often mistaken for a stroke.

Swipe to better understand some of the realities people living with hemiplegic migraine face every day.

Some days, you have the energy to explain migraine.

Some days, the shirt needs to handle it.

I made these designs for the dark-room days, canceled plans, the migraine club nobody asked to join, and the stubborn need to still wear something cute. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿ’œ Vestibular Migraine Awareness ๐Ÿ’œ

Vestibular migraine is one of the most misunderstood forms of migraine. Many people experience vertigo, dizziness, balance problems, motion sensitivity, sensory overload, brain fog, and exhaustion, sometimes with little or no head pain.

Swipe to better understand some of the realities people living with vestibular migraine face every day.

Please share. Awareness changes lives.

This post was inspired by one of my original designs, available on apparel and accessories in the Unified By Design Shop on Etsy.

You'll notice there are two versions of this carousel on my feed. The content is the same, but the backgrounds are different. Since visual sensitivity can be part of vestibular migraine, I wanted to give people options and let them choose the version that's easiest for them to view.
