Terrapin Hollow Press

Terrapin Hollow Press We are an independent book publisher in Arkansas. Our books celebrate conscientious fiction. We don't just tell stories, we explore concepts.

We aspire to produce 2 - 4 quality books per year, available in print, ebook and audiobook format. As an independent book publisher, we seek out stories that present world issues in a dialectic fashion. This means that a story must present multiple sides of the central issue. One sided fiction, no matter how much we agree with the slant, would not be published through Terrapin Hollow Press. Our ai

m is to give the readers multiple perspectives, as we honor the reader's capacity to make up their own mind.

One of Forest's last great adventures was attending Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. In his memory, we have set up a scholarship fund to send local children to Space Camp. At the present time, we've received donations enough to send five kids, one each year. If you would like to be a part of this exciting opportunity, please follow the directions below.

The application includes three pieces. Once you and your parents have completed all three pieces, please email them to [email protected]. If you need assistance with scanning our uploading documents to attach them to email, the nice staff at the Searcy County Public Library in Marshall have agreed to help out.

1. Please write a brief essay in 200 - 400 words to share with the judges why you want to go to NASA Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. Put your best effort into writing. It is appropriate to ask someone to check your spelling and grammar, as long as they do not suggest changes to your content.

2. Please demonstrate both your creativity and passion by creating "something else." This "something else" has to be transmitted to the judges electronically. Ideas include a brief video of you singing, dancing, or speaking. A photograph of your original drawing or painting. The purpose of this "something else" is for the judges to learn more about your personality and to see your passion and commitment to hard work. If you were to submit a painting, for example, they are not grading your skills at painting. Rather they want to see that you invested time and took care to express yourself in ways that weren't captured in the written essay.

3. The third piece is the Parental Agreement Form. This page needs to be printed, signed in blue or black ink, scanned, and emailed along with the essay and the digital file of the "something else." Applications without signatures will not be considered.

The kids got their copies of the anthology today. They were super excited to see their names in print, and eager to swap autographs.

Just an update to let you all know that the end of the Anthology Project is in sight! We've received the poems from the 7th graders. The introduction has been written, the anthology formatted and edited, and the cover illustration is at the studio getting digitized. We're hoping to have the gallery proofs (pre-release copies used to do a final edit, determine overall look/feel, etc.) ordered by the end of the week. If all looks good, the compensation packages for those sponsors who elected to receive them should be in the mail by the end of the month.

Thanks again for your help in making this project come to life.

Our 2015 Children's Anthology Project is progressing nicely. There have been a few changes, but we feel that it gives the project more impact. Instead of working with 20 children, we'll be publishing the works of 68 young authors! The poems should be in to us by the end of this week, and then we'll get onto editing and post production.

For those who donated on the Kickstarter campaign, just an update: the school district is still on track for completing the creative writing project by the end of the school year. They've had a few set backs, but they're as excited about the project as I am. Thanks again, everyone for your help on this, and I'll keep the updates coming.

I saw a roadside church-sign which read: "Some open minds should be closed for repair."

What are your thoughts about this one?

The submission packages are coming in. There's a lot of interesting material out there. Though, I did get a submission for a book of poetry--from Zimbabwe. (They probably didn't read the guidelines).

Nothing in education is so astonishing as the amount of ignorance it accumulates in the form of inert facts.
