"Donโ€™t get comfortable at a red light. Every stoplight is a moment to stay sharp, not to relax. You have to be as aware as if you were movingโ€”checking those mirrors, keeping your escape route in mind. Moments like these remind us that no part of the ride is ever risk-free. If this surprises you, maybe itโ€™s time to rethink your readiness as a rider. Stay alert, stay alive. ๐Ÿ›‘ "

Fact: Did you know "The Star-Spangled Banner" has more than one verse? The second half of the third verse contains some controversial lyrics:

"No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
Oโ€™er the land of the free and the home of the brave."

According to Jefferson Morley, author of Snow-Storm in August: Washington City, Francis Scott Key, and the Forgotten Race Riot of 1835, these lines reference the Colonial Marines, African Americans who joined the British in exchange for freedom. Morley argues that Francis Scott Key meant to scorn and threaten these Black individuals.

However, Mark Clague, a musicologist at the University of Michigan, offers a different perspective. He told the New York Times in 2016 that the reference is about the manipulation of Black Americans by the British, who promised them freedom. Clague also pointed out that Black people fought on the American side of the war as well.

Understanding these historical nuances helps us better appreciate the complexities of our national anthem and its legacy. It's also a reminder of why the Black anthem, "Lift Every Voice and Sing," is being played at NFL games, honoring a different aspect of American history and culture.

๐Ÿšจ Yo Minnesota riders! ๐Ÿšจ

Starting July 1, 2025, we can officially start splitting the gap! Minnesota just legalized lane filtering, so we can now legally weave through slow or stopped traffic. This is a major win for us, making our rides smoother and a lot safer. No more worrying about getting rear-ended in traffic jams!

This change is all about freedom and respect on the road. Big shoutout to everyone who fought for this โ€“ itโ€™s time to ride proud and show what weโ€™re made of!

As of July 1, 2025, we can legally weave through slow or stopped traffic, making our rides safer and smoother. This is a major win for our community, improving road safety and reducing rear-end collisions.

For us, this law isnโ€™t just about convenience; itโ€™s about freedom and recognition on the road. Itโ€™s a step towards safer commutes and better riding experiences. Shoutout to all the advocates and grassroots supporters who made this possible. Let's ride proud and keep pushing for safer roads!

Hey AfroHD community,

Exciting news for all our Minnesota riders! Minnesota has officially become the sixth state to legalize lane filtering, joining California, Utah, Montana, Arizona, and Colorado. This means we can now legally filter through slow or stopped traffic, making our rides safer and more efficient.

Hereโ€™s the lowdown:

Lane Filtering: We can now filter through traffic at up to 25 mph and no more than 15 mph over the speed of traffic.
Safety Boost: Lane filtering is proven to reduce motorcycle accidents, especially rear-end collisions.
Driver Accountability: New penalties are in place for drivers who intentionally impede motorcyclists.
Despite some skepticism, lane filtering is a common practice worldwide and has shown to enhance road safety. This change, effective July 1, 2025, is a huge win for our community, thanks to the relentless efforts of advocates and grassroots supporters.

Letโ€™s spread the word and make sure every rider knows about this new legislation. Stay safe, stay fast, and keep riding strong!
