3years ago, we opened this space as a small pop-up. At the time, there was very little happening around us, and we often questioned whether we should commit to a permanent store.
What gave us the confidence to move forward were the people. Customers who already knew us made a special effort to visit, and our neighbors welcomed us with kindness and encouragement. Their support convinced us that this was a place worth investing in.
In the beginning, attracting customers was not easy. We hosted holiday markets, events with local designers and artists, doing our best to create a community around the store. Looking back, those early days remain some of my favorite memories.
Over time, the neighborhood began to grow. Wonderful businesses opened nearby, more people started visiting the area, and it slowly became a vibrant destination.
Centered around Anonymous Ism, we wanted to create a space that introduced brands and artists whose work reflected a deep sense of craftsmanship. We hoped the store could serve as a small bridge between Japan and the US.
I was incredibly fortunate to work alongside a team that believed in that vision. They shared it with care, passion, and authenticity. The relationships we built and the community that formed around the store are a reflection of their efforts. I truly believe that the reason so many people came to love this place is because of them.
Since deciding to close, I have been focused on the many tasks involved in shutting down a business. It kept me busy enough that the reality of it never fully sank in.
Now, as I write this, it finally has.
These past three years have been filled with learning, growth, friendships, and unforgettable experiences. For that, I am deeply grateful.
To everyone who visited, supported, collaborated with us, or simply stopped by to say hello, thank you. You made this journey meaningful and made this store far more than just a retail space.
I would also like to thank who suggested creating these photographs and somehow made them happen despite a busy schedule. I'm grateful for the care he brought to documenting this final chapter.
Thank you for being part of the Anonymous Ism story.
