Saturday night fair moon rising. Although it is a busy week, we are moving about outdoors most of the time….at all hours. I love watching the sun and moon rise and set as the days go by.

Johnny and I had a rough week at the fair. He required treatment for bloat multiple times per day, even though he was not receiving any grain and he was down to getting limited amounts of hay (that would normally be a ‘safe’ diet for a bloater). In his defense, Miller and Meggie were struggling with some bloat as well. Miller straightened out but Meggie continued to have issues for the week.

In all of the time I had dealt with Johnny’s bloating, he never seemed distressed. However, on Saturday, he was very distressed. I had used all of my knowledge and resources and was not able to help him. I was alerted to the fact that another family was dealing with a severe bloat problem and they had the knowledge and resources to tube the lambs to relieve pressure. Bless her heart! She came twice on Saturday to tube Johnny to help him feel better.

He was given small amounts of hay, that he seemed to tolerate before it was time to load him onto the trailer. While I am always sad to see them go, I will certainly not miss the extra work and worry Johnny gave me daily as I tried to keep him healthy and happy.

Tuesday morning of fair week!

Came into the sheep barn to find daughter’s lamb with a fresh gash on his forehead. He has been evaluated and treated by the fair vet (who is also our home vet so he is VERY familiar with us) and he should be fine.

The boy has done his beef showmanship and we are waiting for his Dairy Beef market class.

I got my first cup of hot chocolate, it was cold this morning!

I’m sitting in the sheep barn with my babies while I wait.

Starting fair week off on the left foot…

Weather is extremely wet and though not cold, it just goes right through you.

We have Johnny the chronic bloater who is definitely living up to his expectations, poor Miller (pictured) was very noticeably bloated last night, and Meggie was bloated a little again.

Everyone got treatment last night and this morning, no grain for breakfast (to their dismay). They were walked for a long time last night.

I’m waiting on my grooming supplies and equipment to arrive and it will be time to start bathing and shearing. Hopefully the stress and cooler temps don’t make the bloating worse.

A little calm before the storm…pigs made it to the fairgrounds this evening. Sheep and steer to go in the morning.

If we don’t feed him, he should be fine! JUST KIDDING!! Johnny is getting his hay, but no grain. He seems to be tolerating that very well. Although he isn’t happy when everyone else gets the food stuff and he doesn’t.
