Week three of Sanctuary Explorers took us all the way to Hawaii (without leaving Maricopa).

Our kids learned about Hawaiian culture with our special guest: lei making, the meaning behind giving lei, and the story of hula, including a few real dances. In art they explored a new blending technique, portraits, and surrealism, then combined it all into wonderfully creative surreal self-portraits. In Spanish with Miss Lorena, they learned a song about the sky and the sea and practiced real conversation through games played entirely in Spanish.

But the part we love most: the friendships made in this room are not staying in this room. Kids who met a few weeks ago are looking for each other at drop-off and carrying those connections home. That is what we built this for. A place where homeschool kids find their people.

Week one of Sanctuary Explorers in the books.

Kids made art, learned a bit of Spanish, met our special guest teachers, and started friendships that will carry them through the summer. The first week is always a settling-in week and ours went beautifully.

Looking ahead: we still have plenty of room in upcoming weeks. The week of June 15 and the week of June 29 have the most space. $225 per week per child or $75 per day.

Also worth knowing: our weekly Spanish class (Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 AM) and weekly art class (Thursdays at 11 AM) are accepting new students at any time. Both run year-round.

Mondays and Wednesdays at Sanctuary Explorers are special guest days.

Last week we welcomed Mr. Cortland to share social emotional learning with our kids. The room was full of questions, focused work, and the kind of conversations you only get when kids are genuinely engaged.

Every Monday and Wednesday brings a different guest teacher with their own expertise. It's one of the things we're most proud of in this program.

Day two of Sanctuary Explorers and our space is full of new friendships forming.

Kids arrived this morning, settled into their groups, and dove into projects. Watching homeschool kids discover that other kids share their curiosity is one of the best parts of this work.

We still have room for families who want to join us for a week or a few days. $225 per week or $75 per day. Camp runs through July 9, Monday through Thursday, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Central Arizona College.

Sanctuary Explorers Summer Program starts one week from today.

And starting today, weekly registration is also open. Families who want a shorter commitment can sign up for any week or combination of weeks of camp at $225 per week per child.
