On this day 5 years ago, while 9 months pregnant with Olivia, I got the devastating call that my beautiful sister had passed away unexpectedly. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. This can’t be real. I just spoke to her less than 12 hours ago.
I had been sleeping and kept my phone on silent so I didn’t get the first calls. When I called my mom back, I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock. I quickly got dressed and drove to the hospital to meet my family. It didn’t sink in until I asked a nurse to tell me where to go. My legs buckled underneath me, but the nurses caught me and made me sit in a wheelchair to go to my family. When I met them, I was still in disbelief. How? What happened? Did someone do this to her? (She lived in a group home) She was fine the day before, what happened?! How come they couldn’t save her?! So so so many questions that we will never know the real answers to. Because she lived in a group home, we couldn’t have our own autopsy done. One had to be conducted by the state to prove maltreatment wasn’t the cause of death. I would’ve liked a deeper one done to find out why, at 36, she had passed. Leading up to her death, there were many medical mysteries happening for her that doctors just couldn’t figure out. She had been to so many different doctors, test after test, and they still couldn’t figure it out.
She was truly one of a kind and I miss her dearly. I even miss the daily calls where she wanted me to “talk to mom because she’s mean”. 😩. I’m sad my daughter will never know her Aunt Shelly Bells, but I know she watches over her and always has ❤️🙏🏼. Everyone that knew her, loved her. Miss you sister 😞
