She’s 6. And no—she hasn’t mastered all of these skills yet. 🧵💜
That’s not the goal.
Over two classes, this young sewist was introduced to real garment-construction techniques while helping create a skirt she could actually wear.
She practiced making side-seam pockets, sewing a hem, creating a waistband casing and embellishing her finished skirt with rhinestones and a patch. ✨
Some steps she could handle. Others required more guidance and assistance from me—and that’s exactly how learning should look.
Because being introduced to a skill once isn’t the same as mastering it.
Exposure → Practice → Repetition → Confidence → Skill
Whether you’re 6 or 60, sewing takes time. We practice. We repeat. And little by little, I step back as the student becomes more independent.
And that finished skirt? That’s something to be proud of. 💜✂️
