“But mine is for work.”
And sometimes, it really is.

Our phones are how we communicate with customers, answer emails, run businesses, and get work done. Our kids can understand that.

The problem isn't that we use our phones.
The problem is when there’s no clear boundary between phone time and family time.

Kids need to know that sometimes Dad or Mom needs to work on the phone—and sometimes the phone gets put away completely.
That means creating structure around it: designated work time, phone-free meals, screen-free family time, and moments when everyone gets our full attention.

Because we're not trying to teach our kids that phones are bad.
We're teaching them that phones have a place—and so does being fully present.

This week, give each family member a night to choose the activity, with one catch: it can't involve a screen.

Let everyone have a turn deciding what the family does, while keeping a few simple boundaries in place.
Maybe you'll end up playing a game, heading outside, cooking something together, or doing something you haven't done in years.

Will the kids choose something ridiculous? Probably.
Will someone complain? Almost certainly.
But that's okay.

The goal isn't to create a perfect family night. It's to create the kind of nights your kids actually remember.
Put the screens away and see what your family comes up with.
