We’re hosting 3 classes this month.
💚RAGS TO RICHES💚
Join us in exploring the world of upcycling with Keylime Academy’s Rags to Riches class. Our Rags to Riches class is perfect for beginner and intermediate sewers. In this 3 hour class, you will learn how to repurpose everyday items and turn them into one-of-a-kind treasures. Bring 2-3 garments or pieces from your collection and learn how to transform them into trendy and sustainable pieces.
💚DIY POT HOLDER💚
The DIY Pot Holder class guides you through ksewing a quirky and useful pot holder. In this class students will be taught bias tape techniques and insulbrite use. In just 2.5 hours, you’ll gain hands-on skills and confidence in sewing construction, making a handy item for your kitchen or a thoughtful gift. Once you start making these you simply won’t want to stop!
💚MACHINE SCARIES 💚
Learn the ins and outs of your sewing machine with Keylime Academy’s Machine Scaries class. This basic class will help ease any anxieties you may have about using your sewing machine. Gain confidence and master your machine with the guidance of an expert.
This class includes a step-by-step guide on how to thread your machine, how to set up your machine, and how to do a series of basic stitches.

A not so fun 📣

Our books for CLASSES, PRIVATE LESSONS, ALTERATIONS, AND WALK INS will be closed 8/20-8/31.
Our fearless sewing captain is having hand surgery at the end of this month. That being said some much needed recovery time is essential and beyond our control. Being a tailor without your hands is simply not possible! We appreciate your patience as we work through this time.

All regularly scheduled programming should be back into action by September.

All clients currently with items at our shop, private lessons scheduled, brides gettin married, or appointments scheduled will be honored and completed! All clients looking to schedule before our time away please be aware of delayed processing times.

1135 N Broadway Pl has been Acid Limes home base for 2 years now!

Year two was one of the most challenging yet successful years I’ve ever had. Around 20% of businesses fail within their first year and 50% within the first 5. It used to always be so insane to me to hear those statistics. Now I can completely understand! Owning a business is one of the hardest yet most rewarding jobs I’ve ever experienced. I am feeling entirely overwhelmed with the honor to get to do what I love everyday! Each human that has ever interacted with my business has made that dream possible.

Getting to see folks fall in love with sewing and creating like I did at 12 is the sweetest gift. Being a stepping stone into helping others feel comfortable and confident in their bodies has made bad days worth it! Thank you for continuing to support this gals dreams for another year.

I cant wait to get to seam rippin’, sewin’, and content makin’ in year 3.

An inside peek behind the seams of vintage collection.

Getting to work with vintage pieces is one of my favorite parts of being a tailor. There is nothing like opening up a hem to find the entire thing hand stitched. There is so much joy in seeing the seams of vintage garment and taking in the amount of time, love, and stories stitched into it. It reminds me of a time when sewing was a household chore/staple! Oh the things I would do to see what that was like. It is also a beautiful example of innovation. These garments were made in a time when access to sewing machines wasn’t wide spread. That being said technology was also not what is it today! Many machines weren’t capable of blind hemming or zigzagging, lord knows sergers weren’t accessible!

On the flip side, altering vintage can be very difficult! Sometimes the diy stitching was done in a way that damaged the garment. If that isn’t the case often the fabric is old, brittle, and doesn’t take well to being poked and prodded. Thread also tends to have an expiration date. Once you start breaking the seams down, sometimes the thread practically disintegrates… (yes this has happened)

All this to say, second hand and vintage garments have so much to tell! Please love them and get them loved on, mended, and restored by your local tailor when you see a problem arise.
