MCs Caliph, Hendrick Hernandez-Resto, and Siahlaw partner with The Z to bring hip-hop to the Zeiterion mainstage for the first time!
Each of the New Bedford natives have experienced success outside the city. Now they unite to amplify the genre and pave the way for the next generation of hip-hop in New Bedford. Backed by DJ Fresco and The Seshn Band, the MCs will perform on the stage that has loomed large for them growing up in New Bedford, uniting to demonstrate that working together can truly amplify the genre. New B at The Z puts hip-hop center stage, and is created by New Bedford, for New Bedford!
Caliph
While being a U.S. immigrant and DACA recipient brings many challenges, Caliph has learned to funnel his life story directly into his music as his honesty often creates for a thoughtful depiction of social issues. His gained inspiration from artists like Mase, Michael Jackson, and Pharrell result in unique melodies and strong word play. The combination is a contagious energy, which is exactly what connects the New Bedford artist to people throughout his musical career.
Hendrick Hernandez-Resto
Hendrick Hernandez-Resto is a Puerto Rican-born hip-hop artist and Berklee College of Music-trained audio mixer. A true DIY creator, he writes, produces, records, mixes, and distributes his own music. As a founding member of the creative collective Sleepless In New England, Hendrick has broken new ground as the first hip-hop artist to perform with the New Bedford Art Museum, AHA! New Bedford, the 4752 Festival, and the Sight v Sound Music Series. Most recently, Hendrick became the first emcee to perform alongside the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra. His sound is a dynamic blend of boom bap, trap, pop, and jazz – deeply influenced by Wu-Tang Clan, Queen, Pharrell Williams, Nas, Miles Davis, and every era of hip-hop culture.
Siahlaw
With a family steeped in music, James Stringer II, known as Siahlaw, found inspiration in legends like Nas, AZ, and Wu-Tang Clan, Cormega, and honed his skills through rap battles. In 2003, Siahlaw released his debut mixtape "The Real Me," showcasing his vulnerability and authenticity. However, he faced incarceration, using that time to refine his songwriting. Upon release, he dedicated himself to a positive path, starting his record label ARSTO Enterprise and clothing line Th’ Merchants Bite. Siahlaw has collaborated with icons like Inspectah Deck and had success with singles like "Big Fish" and "Block Market." His journey from the streets to hip-hop royalty showcases his resilience and artistic evolution through the transformative power of music.

DJ Fresco was born and raised in New Bedford, MA where he now resides with his family.
DJ Fresco is fluent in English, Cape Verdean Creole, Portuguese and Spanish!
Bryan's love for music started at a young age. He quickly became the life of the party by providing music for all of his family and friends parties.
Specializes in Weddings, Birthdays, Corporate Events, Sweet 16's , Quinceaneras and Night Club Style functions!
