For me there is a particular beauty that lives in the details of a well-made garment — a giddiness I feel when I see a seam that lies flat, fabric that drapes intentionally, trousers that fit impeccably.

The inside of a garment matters to us as much as the outside. We use georgette-bound seams — a couture technique that encases each raw edge in fine georgette — and French seams, where the raw edge is fully enclosed within a second seam. On our shirting, traditional finishes are applied throughout: rolled hems, careful placket construction, collar work that holds its shape wash after wash, carefully chosen biodegradable buttons of shell or corozo nut.

The fabrics we choose are selected with the same care. Luxury to us means clothing that feel great against the skin and flattering on the body. They will still be beautiful in ten years’ time but also have minimal environmental impact - organic cotton, responsible wool and recycled sateens from Italy, Portugal and Japan.

There is often a misconception that “handmade” or “craft” should equate to something inexpensive, when in reality the opposite is true. These garments are created slowly, by human hands, in small runs. It can take artisans many years to perfect their craft, and today many of these traditional skills are being lost in the pursuit of speed and lower costs. By integrating craft we hope not only to create something beautiful to wear, but also to help preserve these techniques so they can be protected and passed on to future generations.

Everything we make is designed with a little more intention and purpose in mind — for the person wearing it and for the people who made it.

On Friday, to celebrate Mother’s Day, I was honored to spend time with and - an organization close to my heart. I first met Christy almost 15 years ago on a tour bus to New Jersey while heavily pregnant with my first daughter Luella.

It is a difficult moment for maternal healthcare in America as sadly healthcare for women and newborn babies has become a political issue. Listening to one of the few Black midwives left in Tennessee - a state with one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country - was alarming. The United States has the highest maternal death rate in the developed world, disproportionately affecting black and brown communities and the uninsured.

Having chosen to raise my daughters here, I find it difficult to accept that in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, safe pregnancy and childbirth are still not guaranteed for so many women.

Every Mother Counts works to make maternal healthcare safe, respectful, and equitable for women in the US and internationally. I’ve travelled with EMC to Haiti and Guatemala and witnessed their extraordinary work firsthand. Their new film, Perilous Passage: Birth in America, is essential viewing to better understand the urgency of this
issue.

This is why I’m so proud to be on the founding circle of this organization. Today, in honor of their work, the ShineMaker Foundation and an anonymous donor are doubling every gift through midnight tonight up to $100,000.

Love seeing our community of women wearing an eclectic mix of our Spring 2026 collection in their own way - from macramé opera scarves, reversible duster coats and oversized cotton shirts, to shrunken flight jacket and our perfectly tailored trousers and blazers.
